I have used Zepp products during softball practice with my athletes for a couple of years. The ability to break down a player’s swing from speed to bat paths is a wonderful teaching tool. Zepp has now introduced the Smart Bat which uses all of the features of the mounted sensor but integrated seamlessly in a wooden bat.
The new Zepp sensor is designed to be inserted into the Mike Trout Smart Bat which is made by Old Hickory. The bat is sold for $295 which includes the Zepp sensor and comes in several different finishes.
Now athletes can utilize the swing analytics and 3D swing views using a bat they are used to playing with. The Zepp sensor can be charged while inserted into the bat or outside. The bats have been approved for in-game use during top amateur tournaments and events hosted by Prospect Wire, Perfect Game USA, Ripken Baseball, and National Alliance of College Summer Baseball. This allows players, coaches, and scouts to get accurate game readings from swings. This is just another way technology has improved training for sports.
