Winter is here. The doors and windows stay shut. The air can get stale. Ans we now live with a fast-growing golden doodle puppy sleeping in a crate next to the bed. It is a formula for air quality that needs help. Well, help came in the form of the Honeywell AirGenius 4 Air Cleaner.

When the Honeywell AirGenius 4 Air Cleaner arrived for review I was surprised by how small it actually was.

That, despite the fact that it was designed for use in rooms up to 250 sq. ft. In size. The unit looks solidly built and doesn’t call all too much attention to itself. And yet, the AirGenius is able to circulate the air in a large room up to 5 times per hour. And it is quiet. No, it is not silent but the AirGenius doesn’t sound like you put an airplane jet into your room. That’s especially important if, like me, you are using it in the bedroom. It is also important to note that it included four different modes of air cleaning. One of them is specifically designated as “Sleep.”

As Honeywell explains:

The Honeywell AirGenius 4 Air Cleaner’s patented QuietClean filtration system helps capture up to 99.9% of microscopic particles from the air that passes through the filters. The HFD310 can circulate the air in a large room up to 5 times an hour. It is ENERGY STAR qualified and uses the same amount of energy as a standard light bulb. The smart LED controls do the thinking for you and feature 4 intuitive settings, Sleep, Allergen, General Clean and Max Clean.

The AirGenius 4 comes with a five-year warranty. It is simple to set up and start using. As mentioned, it has 4 air cleaning levels: Sleep, General Clean, Allergen and Max, offers an On/Off Oscillation mechanism, has an automatic shut-off timer that lets the product run for 2, 4,or 8 hours, has a soft accent lighting with dimmer and even has an Electronic Filter Check reminder light so you don’t need to think too much about what to do once it is out of the box and at work.

Features:

There are gadgets I love to fiddle with. Setting them up is part of the experience and discovering their bells and whistles through trial and error is not only fun but it keep the experience of using that gadget a bit fresh. There are other gadgets, however, gadgets that you want to have up and running within a few minutes of pulling them from the box and simply want to work without any thought. This is one of those gadgets and… that’s a good thing. When it comes to keeping the air in your home or office fresh you want something that simply works. The AirGenius 4 is just such a device.

It was working within a minute or two of pulling it from the box and, other than choosing the setting I want at any given time, there is nothing to do. Sure the filter needs to be cleaned and the optional odor pre-filter needs to be replaced a few times a year. That, however, is normal maintenance. From a usability standpoint, the AirGenius 4 does what it promises without any fuss. And that’s just how it should be. It has an MSRP of $239.95 but is available from Honeywell for $199.95. You can get it here from Amazon for $149.99. [Affiliate link]
