The trend for some time has been for phones to have bigger and bigger screens, which generally means bigger and bigger phones. But what if you want something smaller? A smartphone so small you can slip it into your jean’s coin pocket, or small enough to slip into the tiniest evening bag? Then you need a Unihertz Jelly Pro!

Originally a successfully funded Kickstarter project, the Unihertz Jelly Pro measures 3.7″ tall by 1.75″ wide by 0.6′ thick, and it weighs 2.1 ounces. It’s so small that it looks like a toy, but under the hood, it has 2GB RAM and 16GB ROM (10.55GB available), and it’s running Android 7.0. It is dual-SIM, and it can also take a microSD memory card. The display is 2.5″ with a resolution of 240×432 pixels. The processor is a 1.1GHz Quad Core. No, it won’t win any speed tests, but it gets the job done.

Included in the box are the phone, a tiny screen protector, a microUSB to USB cable, and a wall charger.

The Jelly Pro tiny, but the phone still has a 2-megapixel front-facing camera and an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with a flash, and yes — there’s even a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The Jelly Pro ships with the battery installed, but you’ll have to pop the back off before you can turn it on. This is the most tricky part of using the phone; the plastic back is not easy to remove, but this video shows you how to get it done.

It was nice to have a reason to pull out my NewerTech toolkit to get that back off. 😉

With the back removed and the cute little 950mAh battery out, you can see the SIM and memory card slots.

When the phone is charging, the pressure sensitive home button has a ring around it that will glow red; once the phone is fully charged, it glows green. Unihertz has been pushing updates through regularly; the day I got it, there was an update, and today there was another one.

Everything you’re used to seeing on an Android phone is here — you can run the apps you love, and you can load it with your music; the speaker is surprisingly loud, too. It will track your steps (it’s tiny enough not to weigh you down while you’re jogging)…

… and you can even watch a movie on it.

Crazy, right? You can SnapChat, chat with friends, check your email … just about anything you can do on a larger phone, you can do on the Jelly Pro. Granted, the keyboard is tiny, so you may need to pay a little more attention to what you’re inputting, and you’ll likely fat-finger it at times, but the keyboard is surprisingly perceptive, and it’s not that hard to do what you need to do. So cute.

And it can record 1080p video.

The Jelly Pro works with any GSM phone carrier — which in the US means anything but Verizon, Sprint, or any of their subsidiaries.

Just about anything your larger Android phone can do, the Unihertz Jelly pro can do. It’s just smaller, cuter, and more pocketable. Is this the phone that will replace your top of the line Android phone? No! But the Jelly Pro is the phone that you can take with you when you’re going out and you need something small. It’s the phone you can take to a music festival and not worry about losing. It’s the phone you can get in pearl white, sky blue, and space black for much less than the price of most non-flagship Android phones. That’s pretty cool.

The Unihertz Jelly Pro Phone retails for $129.99, and it is available directly from the manufacturer.

What I Like: It’s so tiny, but it’s fully functional; Android 7.0; It can run all the apps you love; You can use it to watch movies; Small enough to conveniently carry while exercising; It’s great for festivals, travel, or any other time you don’t want to carry your full-size, expensive smartphone

What Needs Improvement: Onscreen keyboard is tiny — expect fat-fingering; Don’t expect a flagship phone — enjoy it for what it is: Battery life isn’t great — keep in mind that it is a sub 1000mAh battery, not the 3000mAh typical to larger phones
