Virtual reality headsets have become a big focus for PC gamers in recent years, but now there’s a new method for gamers to become even more immersed in their games, and it’s not going to be what you expect.

Philips Hue and Razer have partnered together to provide even richer gaming experiences in the form spatial immersion. Specifically, Philips has made it possible for their Hue lighting system to integrate with the Razer Chroma lighting ecosystem. This allows gamers to sync their Philips Hue smart lights with their Razer Chromo laptops, keyboards, mice and mousepads.

Playing a game with a green scene? Your Philips Hue lights will emulate that green scene and your Razer Chroma products will too. In the demo we saw, all of these lighting effects were seamless and helped to make the video game experience even more immersive.

“Our smart lighting can deliver just that. Philips Hue takes the content beyond the screen and extends it into the living room. For gamers, this ‘surround sound for your eyes’ is incredibly powerful when synced with the Razer Chroma-enabled devices.”

Of course, Game developers will have to work with the companies to make it possible for the lighting effects to change dynamically during gameplay. So far, these neat in-game lighting effects are available in games like “Overwatch,” and “Quake Champions”.

If you’ve ever paid attention to Razer’s PCs and peripherals, they are chock full of an assortment of colors, more so than any other company, so a partnership with Philips Hue and their colorful smart lighting ecosystem is a match made in rainbow heaven.
