Nomad MagSafe Mount Stand Review: Holds Your iPhone at a Convenient Viewing Angle while Charging

Nomad has been on a roll releasing accessories that work with Apple’s MagSafe Mount. In April, they released a horizontal MagSafe Mount. Reviews were excellent but often included a request — people wanted a vertical version, so they could see their iPhone while it wirelessly charged. The new Nomad MagSafe Mount Stand has just been announced; it allows you to view your mounted iPhone either horizontally or vertically.

I’ve long been a fan of Nomad’s wireless chargers. Previously, each charger came with Qi charging coils built into the accessories. That meant that, right out of the box, they were ready to keep your iPhone charged.

Nomad’s MagSafe accessories take a different approach and create a base and/or holder for Apple’s MagSafe charger. That means you’ll have to supply your own overpriced Apple MagSafe chargers. That’s not Nomad’s fault, but it is something you will want to keep in mind when considering these new charger mounts.

In this case, Nomad has created a refined, unassuming heavy base that holds an Apple MagSafe charger. As the company explains:

The magnets in the MagSafe charger are strong enough that they will hold any model of iPhone 12 securely in landscape or portrait. And once it gets a grip, the phone stays put.

The mount is a solid block of aluminum with a black powder coating that looks and feels great. Weighing 21 ounces, it has enough heft that, despite the strong magnetic grip it has on the phone, the stand stays put when you go to pick up your phone. This is aided by a micro-suction pad on the bottom that not only holds the stand down but won’t scratch the surface upon which it is placed.

The Nomad MagSafe Mount Stand angle isn’t adjustable, but the fixed angle is perfect for viewing emails while working or watching a YouTube video handsfree.

To use the charging stand, you’ll need to thread your MagSafe Charger through the hole in the stand and press the charger into the cutout carved into the stand. From there, it is as easy as connecting the charging cable to your own wall adapter. Once the MagSafe charger is properly seated, it creates a solid charging surface for your iPhone that is as good-looking as it is functional.

The MagSafe charger is a convenient way to charge your iPhone 12. Do you need this MagSafe accessory? No, you don’t. But if you want to keep your desk or nightstand clean and organized, you won’t be disappointed.
