Noodlecake Studios, the guys who brought you the original Super Stickman Golf, released Spokko‘s new project, Zombie Road Trip to the App Store and Google Play store yesterday.  Zombie Road Trip is very similar to the endless driving game Extreme Road Trip and Extreme Road Trip 2, except that it adds a whole new layer of awesome on top of the existing genre. I was a big fan of the Extreme Road Trip games, so I was happy to take Zombie Road Trip for a test drive.

You find yourself driving, pedal to the metal, in order to escape a zombie horde.  You’ve got a gun strapped to the side of your escape vehicle and you’ve got to haul ass past roaming zombies, shooting them down as you drive.  If you don’t shoot the zombies before your car reaches them, they’ll slow you down.  The more back and front flips your car lands, the faster you go.  You get bonus speed for landing them perfectly and once you build up your boost meter, you’ll get a burst of speed likely to leave the brain-hungry zombies eating your dust…for a little while, anyway.

As with most games of this genre, you gain coins for certain maneuvers, killing zombies, etc.  You can then use these coins to buy a new, faster, more armored car, or to upgrade your existing vehicle’s on-board weapon.  I’ve already upgraded to the Mustang with an Assault Rifle to take down those walkers much more efficiently.  As you progress through the game, you upgrade through levels and each new level adds a multiplier to your score.

A small annoyance are the ads that pop up sometimes when you return to the main screen.  I say it’s a small annoyance because it is pretty minor as most free-to-play games have some sort of ads these days.  Since this game is free-to-play, the developers have to support the game via advertisements and in-app purchases.  That being said, if you’re a fan of the endless driving or zombie genres, I recommend that you check this game out.  I know I’ll be racing against the rising zombie tide for a while.

Another quick Noodlecake related note:  Noodlecake Studios has announced that beta testing  on Super Stickman Golf 2 will begin this week!  I am happy to say that I will be on the beta testing team, though I don’t know how much I’ll be allowed to reveal to the public during beta testing.  However, the good news is that this means Super Stickman Golf 2 is progressing nicely and depending on the length of the beta testing phase, SSG2 could be released pretty soon!  Very exciting news for those like myself who spend a lot of time with the original Super Stickman Golf.

In the meantime, definitely check out Zombie Road Trip on the App Store or Google Play.
