AT&T Drives New Tesla Connectivity

Another day at the CES show in Las Vegas and another round of announcements from automakers concerning the newest technology they are employing in current and future vehicles. AT&T has announced an agreement with Tesla, an all-electric vehicle manufacturer, to enable current and future models with high speed wireless connectivity in the form of 4G LTE.

Similar to the GM announcement this week (who will be connecting to AT&T networks via OnStar systems), Tesla will be using AT&T for remote engine diagnostics, telematics and infotainment, all accessed via the vehicles’ 17-inch touchscreen.

Also announced by AT&T is the first Drive Studio, opening soon in Atlanta, that will feature a working lab and showroom where engineers can develop and test automotive applications of its new AT&T Drive connected car platform. ATT Drive allows automakers to pick and choose what services and capabilities are important for their vehicles and clients including connectivity, billing solutions, data analytics and infotainment.
