I’ve tried the FitBit Flex, Nike Fuel, and Jawbone UP; while each fitness band had its positive points, there always seems to be something … lacking. At their event last night, Samsung introduced their Gear 2 and Gear Fit watches; one of these may be the all-in-one watch and fitness band combo I’ve been waiting for.
I had a chance to spend some hands on time with the Gear Fit at the event; based on what I saw, it will blow away the Nike Fuel that I have been wearing.
There are a couple of drawbacks, of course. The Gear Fit is water-resistant, not water-proof, so it will not work if you are a swimmer. It should be just fine in the shower, in a rain storm, or in other non-submersible situations, so this may not be a total deal breaker for some (including me). The next drawback? It only works with a Samsung device. This may prove not to be that big of a drawback though, as I left the Samsung Unpacked event thinking that it might be time to make a Samsung Galaxy my next phone.
Well played, Samsung.
