These are some of the things I saw at a recent Petrend Events showcase; I’ve picked out the items that I thought were the coolest.

Pillstashios – Edible Pill Stasher for Dogs

If you have to give your dog medicine, you have probably done everything from stashing it in a piece of cheese to putting the pill in your dog’s mouth, holding its mouth closed, and rubbing your dog’s neck to try to make sure the pill has been swallowed. Cheese probably isn’t the healthiest solution, but it’s been my usual go-to.

Pillstashios are a 100% natural, grain-free, gluten-free, and soy-free edible capsule that you put the pill in so your dog will want to eat it.

There are multiple flavors in small and large capsule sizes, and a bag of 32 runs $12.99.

Doc and Phoebe’s No Bowl Cat Feeders

I was so impressed by this product that I wrote an entire post about them, but I want to include them in this round-up, too.

New Things to Try for Your Four-Legged Children

It’s natural and necessary behavior for cats to stalk their food, play with it, kill it, and then eat it. Indoor cats lose a lot of that when their food is delivered ready to eat daily in a bowl. Using these no-bowl cat feeders is a simple matter of putting a measured amount of kibble in each of the five mouse-shaped feeders and then hiding them around the house.  Your cat will find them, play with them, “kill” them, and then “eat” them. You’ll have a happy and healthy cat as a result. The Doc & Phoebe no bowl feeder system is $39.99.

Neon Litter – Your Cats Will Rave

New Things to Try for Your Four-Legged Children

If you are hiding your cat’s litter box in a room that no one uses, this might not appeal to you that much. But if your cat’s litter box is in a high traffic area, you’ll appreciate that this product not only masks smells and clumps easily, it’s long-lasting and looks cool.

Neon Litter is made of silica that’s been dyed with food coloring. The absorbent micro-sized crystals are soft on paws, dust-free, and 70% lighter than clay litters. Neon swears by the odor control of this litter, and they say that you can get away with only having to scoop twice a week (assuming that you have one cat).

Neon Litter comes in green, orange, pink, and purple; it sells for $14.99 a bag, but there are significant discounts when you order more than one at a time.

Petcurean Products

If you are super picky about what you feed your dog or cat (as you should be!), then you’ll be interested in all that Petcurean has to offer. I have to admit that I had never heard of the brand before this meeting, but I was impressed that all of their treats were human food grade, and the ladies manning the booth admitted that they had all tried them. I smelled what was in the bag, and guess what? I was tempted. 🙂

New Things to Try for Your Four-Legged Children

Petcurean makes wet and dry foods as well as treats. All are made in Canada, and they are all responsibly produced using simple and ingredients which start with meat first with limited other ingredients. Earth Animal No-Hide Dog Chews

Earth Animal makes a lot of healthy treats for your pets, but the one that really caught my eye is their No-Hide dog chew. I’ve made the mistake of giving rawhide to my dog, Otis. He ate it quickly, then promptly threw it up. It turns out that rawhide isn’t exactly digestible. Who knew? Well, the No-Hide Dog Chew is a great option for dogs who want a treat they can safely chew and devour without ill effects.

New Things to Try for Your Four-Legged Children

Each one of these No-Hide Dog Chews is made of 100% human-grade ingredients from animals that have been humanely raised animals sourced in the US. The ingredients of this pork chew are as follows: pork, pork gelatin, brown rice flour, organic eggs, olive oil, banana, and pineapple — in other words, there is nothing in it that you or I wouldn’t be willing to eat, unless you’re a vegetarian, of course. The chews come in 4″, 7″, and 11″ lengths; they vary in price from $4.99 for two 4″ chews to $9.99 for two 7″ chews, to $13.99 for a single 11″ chew.

I gave this one to my dog, Otis, and he loved it!

Link AKC GPS Smart Collar

If you want to know where your dog is at all times, you need a Link AKC GPS smart collar. When paired with the smartphone app, you’ll know exactly where your little wanderer has run off to.

New Things to Try for Your Four-Legged Children

Link AKC smart collars are fashionable and light, but if you already have a favorite dog collar, you can still use it by sliding on the part that holds the Link GPS module. You will have to pay for a service plan to use this, and you’ll need to recharge the collar regularly, but if your dog is ever outside without a leash (hunting dogs, for instance), this gives you a good way to keep up with it.

The Link AKC smart collar is usually $149, but they are on sale for $99 right now.

EarLifter Medical Grade Dog Ear Harness

This is one of those products that if you never need it, you wouldn’t care (or know) that it existed. But if you have a dog with floppy ears, then you know how just a little bit of moisture in the ear can cause big problems.

New Things to Try for Your Four-Legged Children

EarLifters are easy to put on your dog, and — as the name implies — they lift up your dog’s floppy ears so that air can get in there. This is a great way to prevent ear infections in dogs that are prone to them. There are different sizes available for small, medium, and large dogs, and the medical-grade silicone harnesses are durable, washable, and reusable.

If silicone looks cheap or uncomfortable to you, EarLifters also makes a nylon webbing version.
