Qmadix was kind enough to send three of their new iPhone cases for review. I thought we might take a quick look at each one. Here in Part 2 we’ll look at the Metalix Snap-On Cover for iPhone 4S. If you like the look of a metal case but also like the grip offered by a textured rubber case this just might be the iPhone protection for you.
From Qmadix:
The Qmadix Metalix Snap-On Cover adds style, sophistication and protection to your device. The durable but lightweight, textured polycarbonate border helps to keep a firm grip on your device. Aluminum alloy accents enhance the look of your device without adding bulk or unwanted weight.
Features:
Form fitted design allows access to all buttons,?cameras and ports
Protects from scratches and bumps
Easy to install
Available in a variety of colors
I’ve written previously that I love a minimalist design when it comes to protecting my iPhone. Many of the cases, such as Case-Mate’s Barely There series tend to be a little on the bland side (although they upped their game recently as I noted in this review). That’s what drew me to the Metalix Snap-On Cover for iPhone 4S. The case takes the best aspects of the minimalist shell and adds to it in two significant ways.
First, there is a nice-looking metal plate that is embedded into the back of the case. It adds to both the look and feel of the case. In addition, since there are a number of colors available you can choose your favorite color or, if you have a number of them, the one that fits your particular mood. That sure beats the “you can have any color so long as it is black” offerings of minimalistic cases in the past.
Second, since the metal plate doesn’t cover the entire back of the iPhone and the area where the polycarbonate stripe is is textured, you get both visual interest and added grip. The case feels good in the hand and, in the process, loses any of the slipperiness that come with many metallic cases.
As you can see, the case doesn’t offer any lay-on-the-table protection. Instead, it all but disappears when you look at the case from the front. I don’t happen to mind this since I don’t tend to put my phone face down on a table but if you do it is something to consider. In addition, I can’t figure out how the company can advertise the case as not adding any “unwanted weight” since it adds significantly to the heft of the iPhone. To me that is a good thing since I like the weight of it but it really isn’t a true statement by the company. I am, once again, disappointed the company did not include a screen protector.
In all, I like this case a lot and highly recommend it. You can check out all the available colors here on the company site.
MSRP: $29.99
What I Like: Looks good; A nice selection of color; Textured “wings” make it easier to hold; Nearly invisible from the front
What Needs Improvement: No screen protector; DOES add to the iPhone’s weight
