RISION Unveils 2 New USB-C Thermal Cameras That Turn Your Phone into an Inspection Device

RISION, a company that specializes in thermal imaging and detection systems, has announced a new family of plug-in thermal cameras that are specifically designed to integrate directly with smartphones, tablets, and laptops. They will offer the new RISION Magic series: the RISION Magic and RISION Magic Pro. The more accessible RISION Magic is designed for homeowners and do-it-yourselfers performing basic household and electronics inspections. The other variant, the RISION Magic Pro, is tailored for professionals, tradespeople, and homeowners alike, performing functions such as investigations of electrical systems and components, HVAC equipment, industrial inspections, and more rigorous mechanical inspections.

Both of these cameras plug into a device via USB-C and draw all their power directly from that connected device. Weighing only 24 grams, makes it easy to carry in your pocket or toolbox. Both of these models are compatible with supported Windows, iOS, and Android devices so you can get started in checking around your home or job site immediately. Both are made with a tough aerospace-grade alloy body, which the company states has been thoroughly tested in hundreds of drop tests.

Enhanced Thermal Imaging Technology

The two models share RISION’s QuadIR super resolution and AI BiSpectrix™ fusion technologies. QuadIR™ effectively doubles the pixel density of the final thermal image, while AI BiSpectrix aligns thermal data with visible details captured by the connected device’s camera, helping users associate a temperature difference with a recognizable component, opening, or surface.

Using the RISION View app, you can view and measure temperatures, toggle the viewing window, select one of 12 different palettes, and use the 3-level calibration settings. The app can monitor five separate measurement points, up to 5 linear sections, and up to five measurement areas, as well as generate real-time graphs indicating the temperature change in specific regions over time, and the addition of programmable alert parameters as necessary.

“Energy loss, air leaks, and overheating components often go undetected until they become costly failures,” said York Guo, founder and CEO of RISION. “The Magic series is built to change that. By combining a powerful chipset, a seamless software ecosystem, and advanced AI, the Magic and Magic Pro turn everyday mobile devices into precision inspection tools that deliver sharper detail, smarter analysis, and faster workflows.”

Prices are $139 for the RISION Magic (with a $20 discount for online sales before the August 24 general availability date), and $299 for the more advanced RISION Magic Pro. There is also an upgrade to the overall warranty from 2 years to 3 years for early birds who purchase either version.
