The new Arcade Belts Vernan Kee stretch belts feature new colorways designed by Vernan Kee, bringing a touch of Navajo-inspired color and pattern to your daily wardrobe. Designed and inspired by Vernan Kee’s respect for nature and Navajo heritage, each belt features striking geometric shapes that reflect his modern interpretation of traditional rug patterns. We will take a look at these three new patterns for the Arcade stretch belt and see whether they deserve a place in the wardrobe.
The Dilemma
Belts have always been a struggle for me. I am built without much of a behind, and my somewhat ample middle has rendered my waist more outward-shaped than inward. This means that belts are a necessity for me because without one, anyone walking behind me gets the kind of show that they certainly didn’t sign up for. Adding the fact that I am currently losing weight means that my belts have an even more critical job than before, and I constantly need a new size.
When I was offered a chance to test belts that are micro-adjustable, stretch, are airport-security friendly, and look good, I just couldn’t say “no.” Let’s dig into these three new Arcade Belts Vernan Kee stretch belts and see if they can do the heavy lifting.
What’s in the Box?
I was sent the three new colorways from artist Vernan Kee for 2026. All three come only in the standard length that fits waists from 24″ to 38″ (or 40″; the website claims both, and the package says 40″). From left to right, they are:
- Vernan Kee Copper Rust in 1.25″ slim width
- Vernan Kee Black Grey in 1.5″ standard width
- Vernan Kee Mesa Amber in 1.5″ standard width
Each belt came securely mounted on a recycled paperboard carrier.
Each belt has a color-matched and logoed sliding retaining loop to hold excess length securely.
What Makes Arcade Stretch Belts Different Than Regular Belts?
A couple of design features make these stretch belts different. First is, well, they stretch. Many belts are made from leather. Leather doesn’t stretch. These belts are made with REPREVE recycled webbing.
According to Arcade Belts:
Our belt webbing is made of 85% post-consumer recycled REPREVE®? polyester and 15% rubber. REPREVE® is the leading brand of recycled performance yarn, and gives waste a second life by repurposing post-consumer plastic bottles into high grade performance material. Our webbing has been tested extensively to ensure uncompromised performance and durability, while making far less of an impact on the environment.
With recycled material in the belt and packaging, you can feel good about helping protect the environment when you wear an Arcade stretch belt.
Another advantage of the REPREVE fabric is that it is washable. If your belt gets dirty, just toss it in the washer and dryer with your regular laundry. Keeping it clean couldn’t be easier.
I travel a lot. Travel means airports. Airports mean airport security. Airport security means metal screening. These Arcade belts all have Arcade’s patented A2 buckle system with 100% plastic buckles. You can see the insert end in the photo above. Here is the main buckle housing.
The Arcade Belts Vernan Kee stretch belts are subtly embossed with the Arcade logo. You can see the release buttons on the top and bottom of the buckle. You can also see the retaining loop with the Arcade name. The big thing with the buckle is that it is all plastic. No metal to set off metal detectors. Of course, I have an artificial hip and knee that take care of that for me, but still, not having a huge metal buckle makes these belts super travel-friendly.
Another travel-friendly feature is their weight. The slim belt weighs 1.9oz. The standard-width belt weighs 2.4oz. If you are a fashion maven and want to travel with a variety of styles, you can fold six or seven belts into a small space and add only about a pound to your suitcase.
On the back of the buckle, we see the adjustment opening. This leads to the next difference in the stretch belt.
These standard-length belts adjust from 24″ to either 38″ or 40″, depending on which claim on the website or package you believe. Regular belts adjust in large increments because the holes in a typical belt are spaced 1″ apart. That works, as long as your waist measures exactly on those 1″ increments. For many of us, however, traditional belts are always a little too loose or a little too snug.
The Arcade Belts Vernan Kee stretch belts change that in two ways. First, their stretchy nature means that they always have a little give in them. That’s awesome. Second, you can adjust the belt’s overall length to exactly what you need. How? Just push the belt fabric through the adjustment slot to free up fabric to either lengthen or shorten the belt, and then pull that excess through the other way to lock it in.
This lets you size the belt exactly to what you need. I do have two issues with this. The first is that you can’t really do this on the fly. Let’s say that you chow down on a particularly large meal and feel a little constricted. Normally, you’d just loosen the old belt a bit and give your tummy some breathing room. You can’t do that with this belt. But…since the belt stretches already, that extra room is already built in.
The other issue is that adjusting the belt length is a bit of an exercise in patience. The belt body is fabric. It is thick and has some body, but it is still fabric. The adjustment opening is tight by design. This means that to change the belt length, you need to push flexible fabric through a tight opening. I’d compare it to pushing wet spaghetti. That’s a little strong, but you get the idea.
With a little fiddling, pinching, pushing, wiggling, and tugging, I was able to push the fabric through, and then take up that slack on the other side to lengthen all three belts to their maximum length to fit my maximum waist.
How Do They Look and Feel When Worn?
I put on the first Arcade Belts Vernan Kee stretch belt. I fed the belt, starting on my left side, threading the insert end of the buckle through each belt loop, around my 40″ waist. When I got to the front, several inches remained between the buckle housing and the clip. A little tug on each end stretched the belt, and I could snap the buckle together.
This concerned me. My waist was admittedly on the high end of the adjustment range, and it seemed like I had to stretch the belt a lot to buckle it. But once the belt was buckled, it felt…good. The belt was taut, but not overly tight. It was snug, but not uncomfortable. My pants felt secure, but not tight. Wow!
To release the belt, you just pinch the two release buttons on the top and bottom of the buckle. Because the stretch belt is always under tension, that quick push instantly releases the buckle in one easy motion. Unlike a regular belt, where you have to tighten it a bit to let the tab come out of the hole, the Arcade stretch belt is a breeze to undo. But until you decide to release the buckle, it stays securely fastened, even when tugged.
I have to admit that these belts felt, well, weird. I’m used to leather belts. They are stiff, and you feel the belt. If you reach back to tuck in your shirt, the belt is there. These belts kind of disappear. Not visually, mind you. Visually, they stand out in a good way. The patterns on all three of these belts are extremely attractive and accent whatever you wear, as shown in the photo above. What I mean is that, from a feeling standpoint, I just don’t feel these belts. They are just there, doing their job comfortably while still looking great.
As I walked, sat, stood, moved, and even played golf, each belt quietly did its job without bothering me. They stretched when I stretched, never dug in, and kept my pants up where they were supposed to be, even when I bent over.
If you look closely at the photo above, it is quite obvious that there still is a little excess “me” right above the belt area. This showcases another comfort feature of these belts. The buckle is essentially flush with the belt itself. That means that there are no sharp buckle bits to dig into that overhang area that I am blessed with. That is a huge bonus for me.
Here’s what I have discovered after wearing these belts multiple times. I love them. First, they look terrific. Each Arcade Belts Vernan Kee stretch belt design has its own unique appeal. They work equally well as dressy or casual belts. Second, they are comfortable. I’ve panicked a couple of times because I thought I’d forgotten to put on a belt. Then I’d reach back and find the Arcade stretch belt silently on duty, holding everything where it belonged.
Arcade claims that these belts are washable and dryable. Even though none of them were dirty, I tossed one belt in with a load of laundry and ran it through the washer and dryer. When I pulled the belt out of the dryer, I couldn’t see any difference from when it was new. Nice!
Final Thoughts
I really wanted to like these belts because belts have always been a pain for me. Guess what? I do! The Arcade Belts Vernan Kee stretch belts look great and are extremely comfortable. As I continue to lose weight, the micro-adjustability will prove to be a huge bonus. The fact that I can toss them in the washer and dryer only adds to the value. Knowing that my belt won’t be a TSA issue will also make future travel a little easier.
Other than the adjustment method being a little fiddly, I don’t really dislike anything about these Arcade Belts Stretch Belts Vernan Kee Colorways. I highly recommend them. I can see myself picking up one or two solid-color models to round out my wardrobe when the occasion calls for something a little less flashy.
The Arcade Belts Vernan Kee stretch belts retail for $44.95; they (along with other styles) are currently available directly from the manufacturer, with other styles available from other retailers, including Amazon.
