In my weekly search for the next Blue Plate Special, I search through the iTunes rankings and search newly released apps.  I try several apps before deciding on one that is worthy of the Blue Plate tag.  This week, my wife, (who never pays much attention to my weekly search) told me she had an app for me for the Blue Plate Special.  It seems that Totemo has caught the attention of every free moment of her time.  For a week or so she has been fiddling with her iPhone while she stands in the kitchen, while I was shopping for boots, just before closing her eyes in bed for the night.  She told me the game has her hooked!  In fact, she has worked her way to level 76.

TOTEMO is a game designed to soothe your mind and train your brain.

Uncover the mystery hidden between the realms in a unique puzzle game. Travel to enchanted places of the past with your witch doctor guide and solve over 60 logic tasks.

Play at your own pace. Think hard and weight carefully your next move, or just stroke your moves intuitively and let the solution emerge in front of your eyes.

Play the survival mode for extra challenge, make your stand against the time and write your name into the on-line leaderboards.

The object of Totemo is to clear the orbs and stars from the screen.  The items are cleared by stringing sets of threes or fours either vertically or horizontally.  The number needed is indicated by the totem pole on the left.  If there are three levels to the totem pole, then sets of three.  You get the picture.

While linking the items, an orb equals one and a star equals two.  The eyes of the totem pole light up with each choice to help you out.  As the levels climb, careful planning will be required to clear the screen.  The patterns must be plotted or else there will be items left at the end of the level and it will have to be replayed.  The early levels are fairly easy and the practice will be of great assistance as the game progresses.  No time limit is set so there is plenty of time to relax and plot each move of the levels.  Story mode and survival mode are provided to give a slightly different take on the game.  My wife loves to play story mode.

From the soothing sounds to the calming graphics, Totemo is sure to relax as well as work your mind.  Beware though, the game is highly addictive and you could be found staring at the iPhone any spare moment trying to clear the next level.  You can find the game here in the iTunes store for $.99.

What I like: Challenging and relaxing gameplay.  Truly addictive.

What could be improved: I always like power ups and specials in games.
