Angel Jackets Distressed Dark Brown Mens Leather Car Coat Review: One More Reason to Look forward to Fall Weather

The Lowdown

The Angel Jackets Distressed Dark Brown Mens Leather Car Coat has pleasantly surprised me. At a current price of $199, I didn’t expect the leather, the design, or the fit and finish to be nearly as nice as they are. Honestly, I love how the jacket looks and feels so much that I’m looking forward to Fall when the temperatures will drop so I can wear it out of the house. Best of all, this is just one style among many.

Pros

Well made of real lambskin leather

Gorgeous brown color with strategic leather distressing so the coat already looks broken in

  • Very comfortable cut
  • Interior pockets for your phone, wallet, or other slim items
  • I love the way this jacket looks and feels, and with it, I am ready for Fall!

Cons

  • My only real complaint is that the buttonholes are a bit too small to button and unbutton the jacket easily

Fall is on the way, and that means jacket time arrives soon. I’ve had a well-loved leather jacket Judie bought me as a gift, but when Angel Jackets reached out and offered a review sample of their dark brown men’s leather car coat, I jumped. Even so, I couldn’t help but wonder how nice a <$300 leather jacket could possibly be, especially when it is currently selling for just $199. The answer is, “Very nice!”

As I noted, I was pretty skeptical about the quality of the clothing being offered by Angel Jackets. The range of styles is extensive, which means the company has a massive number of different skews to manage, and they’re offering jackets made from 100% lambskin leather for ridiculously low prices. For example, the Mens Distressed Dark Brown Leather Car Coat has a full retail price of just $307. That’s a bargain for a quality leather jacket in its own right, but that same jacket is currently on sale for just $199.

Say What???

When Angel Jackets reached out to us and requested a review, it was hard to imagine that such an inexpensive leather jacket wouldn’t come with serious caveats. Deciding to withhold judgment until I had actually tried it, I requested a sample of the men’s leather car coat; it turns out that you can get a nice leather coat without breaking the bank.

When I requested the Angel Jacket’s men’s leather car coat, I intentionally tested a style that had distressed leather. I figured that way, any additional marks, scratches, and scuffs that the jacket might pick up while I was wearing it would just blend right in.

The jacket arrived, and I was impressed. The leather is soft and has that “new leather smell.” And while this particular coat’s leather is fairly thin, that thinness prevents it from being overly heavy and makes it an excellent jacket for Fall.

The jacket’s back is made from four different leather panels. This design results in a major seam running down the entire middle of the back from neck to bottom, with a second major seam running across the back from one side to the other. Were these seams uneven, the jacket would look ridiculous. Fortunately, that is not the case.

The lines are straight, and the seams are tight; the look and feel of the jacket are excellent.

I like the deep, brown color the leather has been tanned, and I appreciate that Angel Jackets didn’t go overboard when they applied the “distressed” finish to the jacket. They truly found the sweet spot between a coat that looks broken in out of the box and something that looks “old and worn.”

The jacket is quite simple.

Buttons on the front hold the jacket closed on cold days.

The broad collar can be flipped up to add some protection to your neck when the wind blows.

It’s worth mentioning that there are no buckles or snaps to tighten the bottom of the wrists of the jacket.

The two exterior pockets are deep enough to hold a few items, but they aren’t lined, nor do they have snaps or zippers to keep things from falling out.

The smooth interior lining is made from polyester, so it doesn’t add much warmth or thickness.

All of this is fine by me, however, because this isn’t a jacket for days of sub-zero weather; this is a casual, added layer for those days and evenings that are just a bit brisk.

The simplicity of the jacket continues on the inside.

On the right side of the jacket’s interior is a roomy open pocket that is just big enough to hold a small tablet like my iPad mini.

On the left side of the jacket’s interior are another open pocket and a smaller, perfectly sized leather pocket for carrying my 6.1″ iPhone. This last pocket is made from leather and is deep enough that I’m quite confident my phone is safe when placed inside.

All in all, the Angel Jackets Distressed Dark Brown Mens Leather Car Coat is smartly-design and not over-engineered the way some outer garments are these days.

If I had to find real fault with any aspect of this jacket, it would be how difficult it will be to wear closed on chilly days on chilly days. The reinforced buttonholes, a nice feature in their own right, are just a bit too small for the jacket’s buttons to easily be slipped in and out of.

The buttonholes are usable, but getting the buttons opened or closed takes a lot of effort. They take so much effort to use that I doubt I’ll be buttoning the jacket very often unless I can stretch the buttonholes a bit. I’m okay with that, though, since this jacket fits and wears more like a nice leather blazer than an overcoat that I would wear if warmth were a priority.

It looks great on you! My husband would like this I think. He needs a new jacket.

  8. That’s a good-looking jacket, and it mostly seems well-designed. It’s too bad about the button holes. It would be nice to be able to easily button it up if the temperature drops during the day.
