Govee Gaming Light Strip G1 Review: Razer Chroma and Govee DreamView Compatible Ambient Lighting

The Lowdown

The Govee Gaming Light Strip G1 is great and priced well for what it is. There are cheaper light strips, but they are incompatible with Razer Chroma and DreamView. While it would be great if these lights could sync with the screen without additional gear and cost, Govee already has a product that does that, and I recently reviewed it.

Cons

Govee makes a wide variety of smart lights and appliances, and the new Govee Gaming Light Strip G1 is another step forward in their line of IoT (Internet of Things) ambient lighting products for gamers. Simply put, it is a strip of LED lights that users mount to the back side of their computer monitors to create different ambient lighting.

Govee Gaming Light Strip G1 installed on a computer monitor

The Light Strip G1 is intended for monitors between 27-34 inches measured diagonally. We installed the light strip on a 27″ monitor with ease. The 60 LED light strip is segmented to fit all four sides of your screen to achieve 360° Color Matching.

What’s in the Box

The Govee Gaming Light Strip G1 package includes the strip light, a power adapter, 10 mounting clips, and a user manual.

Setting Up and Using the Govee Gaming Light Strip G1

The setup was also very simple; using either the Govee Home or another compatible app, the light strip can be set to one of 123 scene modes and 4 music modes. The G1 strip is also compatible with Govee DreamView, which enables intelligent synchronization with 10 Govee lights.

The gaming computer that we used as a testbed currently includes several Razer components, including the keyboard, mouse, and keyboard pad, all of which can match colors. Even the HyperX microphone matches the color scheme through the Razer Chroma app.

The Govee Gaming Light Strip G1 is compatible with the Razer components through the same app, and the colors match exactly; it employs Govee VibraMatch Technology to achieve its quick response time and vibrant colors.

Govee also claims smoother light distribution through the use of enhanced RGBIC LEDs. The performance of the lights speaks for itself and definitely achieves the enhanced ambiance that many gamers seek.
