You might hear “Segway” and picture mall cops on people movers, but Segway is so much more. They’re also in e-bikes, and after their first set dropped last year, they’re refining their e-bike offerings with two new road styles and an off-roading dirtbike, so you can pedal and cruise wherever your heart desires. The new Segway Myon and Segway Muxi (moo-shee) use the brand’s Intelligent Ride System, a software suite that provides everything you need while riding or storing your bike.
There’s lost mode, multi-layer security lock, and Apple Find My and Segway GPS support to track your bike no matter where you are. While riding, you can track your fitness with both the Segway Mobile App and Apple Health or Google Fit.
You won’t get lost either, with a 2.4″ display that can show navigation, cadence, and speed, and even handle music and phone calls from a paired phone. The intelligent lighting system handles your headlights and taillights automatically and includes turn signals for riding on roads. Finally, all of this can be updated remotely by Segway with over-the-air software updates.
Segway Myon
Myon aims to be your everyday use bike. It can be configured in the app for Class 1, 2, or 3 e-bikes, so you can choose on the go how fast you need to go and how much pedal assistance you might need. This is great because then you can boost your assistance for a commute to work and not arrive sweaty, and then blast it on your ride home to get in your workout.
Shifting is easy with Segway’s electronic shifting system and a 9-speed Shimano CUES drivetrain. The e-shifting system is simple with +/- controls, and it’s powered by the bike motor, so you don’t have to worry about needing an extra charge. The battery is managed by Segway’s proprietary TurboTuned software, which combines physics algorithms, sensors, and an inertial measurement unit to adjust power when and where it’s needed. This means you get up to 80 miles of range, which is a decently long bike ride!
The Segway Myon will retail for $1,999.99 and can be purchased from Segway or its licensed dealers.
Segway Muxi
Meanwhile, if you’re looking for style and speed, the Segway Muxi combines old-school looks with modern biking standards. Segway says it’s a beach cruiser meets Dutch cargo bike, with additional accessories to add all sorts of extra storage options. And it comes standard with a fold-down cupholder, because sometimes you didn’t finish your coffee before you started your bike ride.
It’s a class 1 or 2 bike, depending on which you choose in the app, and it features Hill Start Assist, Hill Descent Control, and regenerative braking. Which means even if you’re loaded up with a haul from the farmer’s market, you won’t get stalled out going uphill or suddenly find yourself on a terrifying downhill ride while clinging to your organic kale.
They have some great accessories coming for Muxi to really make it an all-around town bike. They’re offering a passenger kit to add a seat and foot pegs so you can haul a friend around (as long as they’re under 120lbs, so have fun carefully asking your friends their weight before giving them a ride). And if what you need is more storage, an additional middle basket will be available for sale. Finally, if you’re roughing it a little bit, there are optional fenders for both style and protection from wet roads.
The Segway Muxi will be coming this March, starting at $1,699.99; the passenger kit will retail for $199.99, the middle basket for $129.99, and the fenders for $79.99.
Segway Xaber 300
Finally, if you’re looking for a true off-roading experience, the new Segway Xaber 300 (say-br) dirtbike is calling your name. It’s designed not only to rock basic dirtbike rides but also more advanced ones, able to handle power modes for 150, 200, and 300cc equivalents.
If you’re unsure what that means, the higher the number, the more power, but also the more experience you should have to control that power. The Xaber can handle a beginner at 150cc and can be adjusted all the way up to 300cc for a more exciting but intermediate-level ride.
Segway is taking full advantage of an all-electric dirt bike platform, with a digital clutch, adjustable traction control settings for different terrains, and even the ability to set a max wheelie angle so you can refine your tricks to their full potential.
And for parents who want to start a kid off with dirt bikes, the app will support geofencing and parental controls, so your little daredevil can’t exceed speeds or terrains they can’t handle!
Look for more details and pricing on the Xaber later this spring!
Segway’s latest lineup shows they’re serious about moving you from place to place. Simplify your commute and your workout with Myon, get that farmers market run out of the way quickly with Muxi, and get your adrenaline flowing with the Xaber. Get out there and zoom around for some fun-filled fresh air!
