The other day Gizmodo posted a story about how via an iPhone Photobomb, a user was able to track down a purse nabbing thief. ‘m not sure if the story below trumps that one but it’s cool nonetheless.
Check out the video below!
Vince Hunter, a Dallas resident, was on vacation hundreds of miles away in Connecticut. Vince had recently installed web cams throughout his home and using an iPhone application he was alerted via a text message that motion had been detected inside his house. He logged into the iPhone app and discovered that indeed two burglars had smashed the sliding glass door of his home and entered with plans to rob him.
Watching the whole thing unfold on his iPhone, Vince immediately called 911, who alerted the Dallas area police. Unfortunately when they arrived the thieves were already gone, most likely scared off by the Hunter’s alarm system.
After watching the video on the story I was so impressed that I went ahead and ordered myself a couple of Drop Cams. I’ve always been intrigued by web cams that allow for viewing on the iPhone but didn’t want to mess with having to hard wire them. The Drop Cam is totally wireless, records and alerts the user of motion. Users can watch their streaming cameras over their iPhone or over the web.
I can’t wait to get them and hopefully I never have to use them like Vince Hunter did.
