Open Letter to Verizon: When Silence Is a Bad Thing

Open Letter to Verizon: When Silence Is a Bad Thing

Dear Verizon,

First, before I go on, let me say that I am pretty pleased with my Galaxy Nexus.  I want to say this before I go into this short, but justified, rant.  I say this because what I am about to say may be considered negative towards the device itself.  That’s not the case.  It’s a great device even with some of  the issues I have.  Verizon, my issue is squarely with you.

Since the release of Android 4.0.4, it’s been swirling around the Android blogs and forums about when this version will, if ever, get to the users who have the Galaxy Nexus on Verizon.  There was a lot of excitement surrounding May 22nd.  That date was rumored to be the day that you were supposed to issue an OTA for 4.0.4.  Well, that day has come and gone and it’s still not out which I don’t blame you.  There haven’t been any credible sources for this rumored release so I will give you pass for that day.

Then, around May 24th, your partner, Google put the update that leaked earlier in the month back out on their servers.  My phone still has not received the update.

However, all of this mess wouldn’t be so bad if you would say something….anything about the update.  You have said exactly nothing.  Oh there have been tons of “Verizon support reps” that have supposedly been in the know and fueled some of the rumors but nothing official has EVER come out from you Verizon.  Verizon, how hard is it to say something even if it’s negative??

All I know is that with the current situation, your silence is doing damage both to you AND the Nexus program.  How many people will leave you because of the poor support you have given the Nexus?  Will Google even let you have another Nexus phone?  If you are lucky to get another Nexus phone are you going to be this heavy-handed with the device?  With a possible 5 Nexus devices in the next iteration, I hope that they can get a device that has a nice and open CDMA/LTE chipset so that this will no longer be the excuse.

I am waiting for your response.

Sincerely,

Joel McLaughlin

  1. well we know for sure that there will be a motorola nexus and their hardware is the best, imo. I’ve always dreamed of a moto device with pure vanilla android, we’ll see in november.
