Catapult King for iPhone Review; It Brings Tons of Fun

Many iPhone users have spent countless hours tossing birds at various structures in an attempt to defeat the pigs. While I do fall into this group, I have also taken a hiatus from the game series and have been searching for something fresh. Despite the change, the idea of tossing items to knock down things is still an enjoyable task. I recently found a new game that requires structures to be destroyed by flying objects and I am totally addicted. Catapult King allows users to go medieval on some castles in a fun, destructive game. Let’s take a look.

The first thing you will notice when playing Catapult King is the stunning graphics. Every scene is full of bright colors and fantastic 3D rendering. The developers use great panning techniques and pretty animations to immerse players in the castle filled world. Each level will present a complex castle-like structure guarded by knights. To complete each level, all of the knights must be knocked from their positions using a huge catapult. While it sounds simple, many levels will require strategy and  planning in order to master.

To shoot the catapult (which is essentially a large sling shot), pull the ball back and set the power. Many shots will require different levels of power so it is good to learn how to adjust. When the item is pulled back, an arrow on the front of the catapult will aid in aiming and a gear on the right will adjust the pitch up and down. The different shootable items are visible on the left side of the catapult, so make sure you plan accordingly. As the game progresses, new power ups and shootable items become available. Each rock has different power and is best used on various building materials. It is important to match the item with what part of the castles need to be destroyed.

The only danger of playing Catapult King is that it is difficult to put down. The graphics are fantastic and each level is challenging and fun. I love having power ups in games and there are plenty to earn and use. The scoring is a bit confusing, but there are badges and jewels to earn which may bring players back to previously conquered levels to complete 100%. To get a fresh new way to fling items to knock down buildings go check out Catapult King here in the app store. Oh yeah, the best part is that the game is FREE!

What I like: Beautiful graphics coupled with challenging levels and super fun gameplay.

What can be improved: I would like to see a better explanation on scoring and power ups.
