Last year I wrote about NaNoWriMo – National Novel Writing Month – and declared that I had joined up and gotten started. By ‘getting started’ I meant having a nugget of an idea and creating empty files on my iPad to work with. And … that was about as far as I got. I fiddled a bit, but never uploaded anything or made any significant progress. Sadly that was how many of my plans went last year.
But this year has been very different – I have lost 90 pounds, fallen in love with running, I’ve completed a half- and full marathon, and I’ve reclaimed much of my guitar-playing chops. I have already exceeded what I had realistically hoped to accomplish for personal goals this year – but I left ‘write a book’ on the list and set myself the goal of actually participating in NaNoWriMo this year. Who knows what will happen … but it is worth trying!
What about you? Have you been looking for that push to get writing? If so, perhaps this is it – it starts next Thursday November 1st and goes throughout November.
Head to NaNoWriMo to get started!
I try to do NaNo every year! I’ve completed the 50K a number of times and have gotten some viable work out of it. It’s pushed me to create a regular writing habit, and while I don’t hit the keyboard every night I do have an almost complete novel that will probably be about 60K when it’s all said and done (sitting at 40K now, putting it aside for NaNo). Doug told me he was thinking of participating as well. It’s a GD NaNo! 😀
This is going to be my first year to give it a try and to be honest, I’m pretty panicked about it. It’s not that I’m worried about the writing per-se; it’s more a matter of, what with the kids and the full-time job and doing the GD stuff, when the heck will I find the time? 2am?
