Moshi Aerio Lightweight Messenger Bag Is Featherlight and Ready to Go

One of my issues with many messenger bags and backpacks is that, even before you put anything into them, they weigh a ton. Then, after you stow your gear inside, they feel like you are carrying a bag of bricks. Ouch! Not so with the Moshi Aerio! This bag is featherlight but ready for a day of serious productivity.

The Moshi Aerio looks like a fairly standard messenger back. It has the requisite shoulder strap but also has a grab handle on the top. (I love that!) It has an easy access pocket in the front, a zippered magazine pocket in the back, and a trolley strap for those times when you and your rollaboard are racing to make your flight. Inside there is plenty of room and just enough organization. Best of all, the Moshi Aerio is light! How light is it? Empty the bag weighs just 32.8oz. (That’s 930g for those of you who have a measurement system that actually makes sense!!)

Here’s what Moshi has to say about the bag:

Crafted with ergonomics in mind, Moshi’s Aerio messenger bag utilizes innovative materials and modern design to exude a stress-free attitude with a distinctive, stylish facade. Made with premium water-resistant fabric and vegan-leather trim, this lightweight bag features dedicated cushioned compartments for your laptop (up to 15″), iPad, iPhone, camera and/or headphones. Aerio also includes plenty of pockets for other necessities such as chargers, cables, pens, and keys. On the back, there’s a full-width zip pocket for safe-keeping of documents and magazines.

Even when fully loaded, Aerio’s padded shoulder strap and proprietary ViscoStrap™ work in tandem to effectively mitigate shoulder strain. For longer journeys, a discreet rear trolley strap allows for easy and secure transport on rolling luggage. Whether you’re on an overseas business trip or a daily commute, Aerio is the ideal bag to carry all of your belongings with ultimate sophistication and uncompromising comfort.

Let’s take a quick tour of the bag. We’ll start with the back.

The Moshi Aerio has clean lines and is more than a bit attractive. It makes clear that “light” doesn’t mean “cheap.” There is, in fact, nothing cheap about this bag.

As previously mentioned, the Aerio has both a grab handle and a trolley strap. These reflect the fact that Moshi really thought about what a light messenger bag needs to have in order for it to fit into a busy professional’s life.

The rear pocket zips closed so any papers or small objects you place inside will be safe and secure as you move from place to place. All zippers are reinforced at the ends. It is just one more sleek feature in a well-made bag!

The rear pocket even has a lanyard for quickly attaching your key ring. I really appreciate this detail and the way it makes life so much easier. Yes, the days of fishing around for your keys are over!

The same amount of thought went into the shoulder strap of the bag. The Aerio has a padded shoulder strap and employs a proprietary ViscoStrap. These combine to help keep shoulder strain to a minimum.

The strap is permanently affixed. That means there no hardware swinging around, making noise and, at times, becoming a nuisance. The strap is trimmed in “vegan leather.” (Also know as, “synthetic materials that will wear well.”) The Moshi name is subtly embossed on one piece of the leather.

The padded area is free to move into the right position for you and, if you so desire, can be fully removed from the strap. (Again, the strap cannot be removed but the padded portion can.)

The front flap features a small zippered pocket. That means you can keep your phone and passport safe but always within reach. Nice! The clasps that secure the flap are plastic but solid and should last a long long time. The zipper pulls are metal and have a nice texture on the underside that makes them easy to grab and hold.

Lifting the flap reveals pockets aplenty! There’s another zippered pocket for keeping small items safe. Behind it is a second pocket that is open. This is great for items you grab frequently and don’t need to secure behind a zipper. Then we come to the main storage area:

The main section is generous to the point of being cavernous. Even here, however, there is organization. Small pockets can be found in strategically placed locations.

One pocket even enlarges when the Velcro is released. This section is perfect if you are carrying bulky over-the-ear headphones. That’s where I put my JBL Everest Elite headphones and it worked great. You don’t have to use the organizational prowess of the bag but it sure is nice to have it there when you do want it!

Finally there is the laptop compartment. It can handle up to a 15″ laptop. It has just a bit of padding and a strap that secures the laptop in place using Velcro. No, this isn’t the most protective or padded laptop compartment I have seen but it will get the job done! I actually had two laptops in it for a time and it worked great.

In all, the Moshi Aerio laptop is feature-packed!

  • Ultra-lightweight and durable materials.
  • Proprietary ViscoStrap™ alleviates shoulder strain.
  • Padded compartments for laptops up to 15″, iPad/tablets, cameras or headphones.
  • Rear trolley strap securely attaches bag to rolling luggage.
  • Water-repellent coating to safeguard against rain and snow.

Here’s our video review:

I wasn’t sure about the Aerio when it first arrived. After all, as the name implies it is an amazingly light bag. Then I used it for a trip to Florida. I had two laptops, a tablet, large headphones, external batteries, and much more. The bag held everything I needed to bring and was amazingly comfortable to carry. The trolley strap was a huge help at the airport and the organizational features of the bag saved me a ton of time. In short order I went from not being sure about the bag to being a huge fan. You will be too!
