Max Traxxx Tracer Racers Bring New Technology to Old Fun

I loved playing with track sets when I was a kid. Those old tracks used a toy car and gravity or spring power to thrust the car along the plastic track. Max Traxxx Tracer Racers ($49.99) give kids the same old fun but with RC technology. The cars even light up the track as they speed around and hit the jump.

Max Traxxx Tracer Racers feature a variety of track set-ups and cars all with glow in the dark track. The bottom of each car sport two lights that shine on the track as the car speeds around it. The glowing tracks follow the car and slowly disappear. The effect is pretty neat giving the car an even faster feel as it literally streaks around the track.

The set I received to review is the 24-foot stunt set with a Mustang RC car. My two boys put the track together with little trouble. Creating the jump correctly only took two attempts which surprised me. They read instructions about as well as their father, electing to just grab the parts and start building on their own.

While the boys were building the track, they were also charging the car. The supplied RC, controller doubles as the charger by simply plugging the wire into the bottom of the car. The red blinking light will shine green when it is fully charged and can be repeated many times before needing to change batteries. After turning the car and remote on, pull the trigger to go forward and push the trigger forward to go in reverse.

The Mustang looks great and is super tough. I saw it fly off the track and tumble along the tile numerous times with no ill effects. With normal use, I can see the car and track both lasting a long time even with little boys playing with them.

My kids love the glowing effect the car leaves while the 500mph scale speed car runs around the track. After a short bit of practice, they were pretty skilled in hitting the jump and continuing on the other side. I could see having another car being a lot of fun for them to race each other.

All in all, the Max Traxxx Tracer Racers are a lot of fun. I like how they took the old idea of similar tracks and added the RC technology. This will appeal to modern kids who rarely play with anything that is not electronic. The car, controller, and track are all durable and high quality and should last for a long period of time. The track we reviewed includes a jump which my boys enjoyed, but there are many other track layouts that include loops and other options. If you are looking for a great toy without a screen, the Max Traxxx Tracer Racers RC Mustang Stunt Set is a great option.

What I Like: High-quality construction and lots of fun; The lighted track adds a fun effect

What Needs Improvement: Only thing is now I will need another car so the boys can race and not argue over who’s turn it is!

  1. Wow very cool. I love slot racing sets. I wonder if the company will let you buy extra RC cars … I would load up on a dozen of them. Thanks for the detailed review. This is very helpful.
