Toshiba Renames Themselves Dynabook, Embracing Dynamic Changes

Big news if you’re a fanboy of Toshiba computers (hey, everyone needs a hobby) — they’re renaming themselves “Dynabook”, both in the US and around the world. This does not appear to change anything, except that next time you’re in Best Buy wondering if “Dynabook” was a character in The Incredibles*, you’ll remember it was actually Toshiba.

The branding is already live on Toshiba’s website, and they’re using it as an opportunity to showcase the company’s long legacy of technological advancement. It’s actually pretty neat, explaining how Toshiba’s roots include early washing machines, televisions, and of course, early computers. Definitely worth a read!

A word of advice to Toshiba/Dynabook: in the press release, they opened by calling it the beginning of a DYNA-sty, which frankly made me think of infected eyes, so I was equal parts relieved and confused when it turned out to be about computers. In any event, Toshiba Dynabook has a slew of excellent laptops so check them out here!

*Dynaguy. Which is weirdly close to Dynabook. But for safety and aesthetic reasons, a Dynabook does not come with a cape.

Loved the humour and tone of your post, Carly. FYI, and at the risk of mansplaining, there’s a rich history of the name “Dynabook” in computing:
