Nokia Comes Roaring into the mmWave 5G World with the Nokia 8 V 5G UW

The ’90s are coming back in the form of flannel, Saved by the Bell, Foo Fighters on SNL, and now new Nokia phones. But unlike a candy-bar style phone that plays Snake, Nokia has adopted the typical slab design of a 2020 Android smartphone, but with some of that Nokia magic sprinkled on top. Enter the Nokia 8 V 5G UW, the company’s second 5G phone.

Verizon is really going all-in on 5G, and a big part of that is offering 5G at every price point and for every smartphone need. The Nokia 8 V is coming in at $699.99, hitting that top-end of midrange phone space. This one has a few things that make it stand out, though. First, it comes in Meteor Gray, which is described as a “rich living color finish,” which has got to be cooler than regular gray on that 3D sculpted rear Gorilla Glass. Second, most midrange phones don’t have an IMDB credit alongside 007, but the Nokia 8 V will have its big screen (streaming screen?) debut in “No Time to Die” when that finally gets released.

But in terms of tangible things that make the 8 V attractive, well, there are a few big ones. One, it has a 6.81″ PureDisplay, so you’re getting a lot of screen for your buck. It will have a fingerprint reader built into its power button, so that’s very cool. And, synonymous with Nokia’s name, the 8 V will have a PureView Quad cameras powered by ZEISS optics, with a 24-megapixel front-facing camera, a 64-megapixel quad-pixel main camera, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens, a 2-megapixel depth sensor, and a 2-megapixel macro sensor; it will also have low-light and night video modes. Nokia has always made having a good camera a high priority in their phone designs, so if you really subscribe to the idea that the best camera is the one you have with you, well, you might want to have a Nokia 8 V with you!

The 8 V will have a 4,500mAh battery; it will run the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G chipset. It will come with 6GB RAM and 64GB user memory, and you’ll be able to add additional storage in the form of up to a 1TB microSD card. The Nokia 8 V 5G UW will ship with Android 10, but Nokia says that this phone will receive two years of upgrades — including Android 11 and Android 12.

If 007’s phone with an awesome camera sounds good to you, look for it starting November 12 on Verizon Wireless!
