As we begin returning to the office, people are beginning to swap their sweatpants for something comfortable but more appropriate for the office. The same goes for footwear. After a year of wearing slippers, we deserve something equally comfortable on our feet. That’s exactly what I’ve found with the Rockport Total Motion Active Mesh Sneaker.

Over the weekend, Raina handed her slippers to me and said, “What’s wrong with this picture.” A quick examination of the slippers revealed the entire bottom of one separating from the rest of the slipper. “I only got these a year ago and couldn’t figure out why they are already trash, but then I realized I’ve been wearing them every day.”

I’ve done the same thing with my well-worn and overly-loved Ugg slippers. And the idea of wearing uncomfortable shoes all day, every day, isn’t all that appealing. The Total Motion Active Mesh Sneaker doesn’t address my office needs (hopefully, a dressier pair of Rockports are in my future that will), but they are ideal for any activity that doesn’t require me to be more dressed up.

Rockport describes the sneakers this way:

But dig deeper and you’ll discover that our exclusive technology absorbs impact every time your feet the ground, for a reliably smooth ride. When I took the sneakers out of the box, I was immediately surprised by how light they are. These sneakers look substantial, but they are light as a feather thanks to the leather and mesh uppers that are light, strong, and breathable.

Take a quick look at the Total Motion Active Mesh Sneaker, and you will immediately notice the thick white sole. It has Rockport’s truTECH technology that provides a significant degree of shock absorption at the heel as you walk or run. Other features include:

  • Textile/leather upper offers natural comfort and breathability
  • truTECH® is designed to provide lightweight shock absorption
  • Nylon stability shank supplies flexibility and helps create a smoother stride
  • TPU molded plate helps to create stability and flexibility in the shoes
  • EVA outsole provides flexible, lightweight impact absorption

As previously noted, the Total Motion Active Mesh Sneakers are surprisingly light. I think they look great and, so long as they aren’t covered in mud after a long walk in the woods, they dress up nicely if you are heading out to a casual lunch or dinner.

But the most important aspect of the sneakers isn’t their good looks or the multiple layers that were painstakingly designed work together to create the “Total Motion.”

The most important aspect of these sneakers is what I’ve discovered as I’ve worn them while walking my dog Nava for the past week — the sneakers are comfortable. And when I say they are comfortable, I mean that these sneakers feel almost as relaxed as my slippers while offering support and protection no slipper could possibly deliver.

These shoes have a bit of bounce as you walk, and thanks to the technology baked into the heel, they provide a comfortable cushion for your lower back and knees.

I have other sneakers, but I expect they will be going to Goodwill. The Total Motion Active Mesh Sneaker is that comfortable. If you are in the market for new, emerging-from-the-pandemic sneakers, you owe it to yourself to check them out.

The Rockport Total Motion Active Mesh Sneaker sells for $110; they are available directly from the manufacturer.
