“It’s a good thing you’re so cute!” I yelled to Benji as I cleaned up his second urine stain in one week. You may remember this little stain-maker from my previous review of the Bissell Revolution HydroSteam Pet. While the Revolution is a phenomenal full-size carpet cleaner, I needed something more compact and portable for little stains. Enter life saver #2: The Bissell Little Green HydroSteam Pet.

The Bissell Little Green HydroSteam Pet has many powerful features packed into a compact, portable machine. Weighing in at just 13 pounds (approximately the same weight as Benji), this cleaner is easy to store and tote around the house to tackle all those carpet and upholstery stains that remain, patiently waiting, on my to-do list.

This portable carpet cleaner can tackle stains on carpets and rugs, low pile carpets, stairs, area rugs, pet beds, and various other surfaces. So far, I’ve used it on my thick pile carpet, wool low pile area rug, and couch cushions. Each time, I’ve been super impressed with the ease of use and quality of the cleaning.

Once Benji saw the Bissell box, he got straight to work … and so did I.

One of the features that really help tackle stuck-on dirt is the HydroSteam technology. Bissell’s website states, “HydroSteam Technology [provides] 50% better cleaning to remove the toughest stains.”

This morning, my 9-year-old and 6-year-old decided to play with colored clay on my daughter’s bright pink area rug, leaving behind dried clay and dye stains. I first tried to clean the stain by hand, using a carpet cleaning spray and a towel. It didn’t work.

So, I went downstairs, filled the Bissell Little Green HydroSteam Pet60-ounce capacity clean water tank with just enough water and cleaning solution to tackle the stain, and effortlessly carried the portable cleaner to my daughter’s room.

The power cord is very long, which is wonderful when you need to move around the room from one stain to the next. I appreciated not needing to search the house for an extension cord.

The Bissell Little Green HydroSteam Pet has very easy-to-use features clearly identified next to the copper knob on the top of the machine. It even has a little light that shines when the steam feature is ready (if you are using that feature).

I used just the spray cleaner without steam for my first run with the clay stains and was rather unsuccessful. I then hit it with a little steam power, which did the trick! I added some more cleaner using the spray feature, sucked up the excess liquid, and viola! The stain was gone!

I also appreciate how the Bissell Little Green HydroSteam Pet leaves the carpet moist but not too damp.

When I clean the carpet by hand, it takes days to dry because I’m unable to remove as much moisture as the Bissell can. A dryer carpet means we can get back to our normal routines without setting up barriers around the drying area – and it also means fewer wet sock changes.

Another way I plan to use the Bissell with the steam function and the multi-surface tool is to clean the grout in my shower. I also hope to one day use it to detail the inside of my car by shampooing the floor mats and the trunk. This powerful little machine has so many uses, and I can’t wait to see what else it can do.

I truly appreciate that the Bissell Little Green HydroSteam Pet is such a compact carpet cleaner as it’s so easy to store, transport, and use. It’s great for people living in apartments or people like me who constantly clean stains from kids and pets.

One improvement I’d like to see is for the clean water tank to have measurements for smaller fills. If I only have one small stain to clean, I’d like to create just a small amount of cleaning solution.

A second minor improvement I’d suggest is to include an optional sticker of the “Stain, Surface, & Tool Guide” so I can permanently attach it to my machine. I worry that the attached paper copy will either get ripped off or ruined from water stains.

All in all, the Bissell Little Green HydroSteam Pet is a fantastic, effective, and convenient tool to help fight the battle against stains. One really nice perk is that they created the Bissell Pet Foundation to help support animal welfare organizations and provide resources to underserved communities, so when you buy one, you’re not only getting an effective carpet cleaner but also supporting a worthy cause!

The Bissell Little Green HydroSteam Pet sells for $229.99: it is available directly from the manufacturer and other retailers, including Amazon.
