Motorola Razr 50 Ultra (AKA Razr+ 2024) and Motorola Razr 50 (AKA Razr 2024) Bring Exciting Features and Enhancements to Foldable Flip Smartphones

I’m in Brooklyn today for the motorola launch event for the exciting update to the 2024 razr family, which includes the motorola razr 50 ultra (also known as the razr+ 2024) and the motorola razr 50 (aka the razr 2024). Both foldable flip smartphones have a sleek, fashionable design, and they offer powerful AI-driven functions to bring a fresh, exciting experience when using them, coupled with excellent performance and capable cameras.

The most notable exterior difference between the two models is that the razr 50 has a 3.6″ exterior display, while the flagship Razr 50 ultra’s exterior boasts a 4″ display.

Compared to the current Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5, which only has a 3.4″ display, these are the largest exterior displays currently available in US foldable flip phones.

The new razr models are designed in vibrant colors and premium materials, including vegan leather finishes. The razr 50 ultra (razr+ 2024) comes in Midnight Blue, Spring Green, and Peach Fuzz; the razr 50 (razr 2024) is available in Beach Sand, Koala Grey, and Spritz Orange.

Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protects both devices, and they are water-resistant, being able to withstand being submerged in up to almost 5′ of water for 30 minutes.

The revamped hinge design allows for easier one-handed operation, and the internal 6.9″ pOLED display offers versatile Flex View positions for hands-free photo and video capture. The new Photo Booth feature can stitch four photos together into a shareable collage.

With these new external screens, your experience using one of these flip phones while closed will be even better. The external displays can run full apps and offer new customization options, including Style Sync, which matches wallpapers to your outfit, Magic Canvas, which generates images based on text prompts, and several clock faces.

These exterior displays also support Google Photos, so you can manage your images and videos without opening the phone. The displays also include dedicated panels for Spotify and Bose devices, so you’ll have convenient controls when listening to music.

Without opening the phone to the main 6.9″ display, you can also access Google’s Gemini app for things like getting step-by-step instructions on a project, help planning trips and activities, or even assistance when writing thank-you notes or emails. You can also use Gemini to help when brainstorming ideas or to seamlessly access information from Google apps and services like Maps, YouTube, Flights, Gmail, and Drive.

When you purchase one of the new razr models, motorola is throwing in a three-month subscription to Gemini Advanced, which includes 2 TB of cloud storage and access to Google’s most advanced AI models through the Google One AI Premium plan, so right off the bat you’ll be able to put the app to the test and see what it can do for you.

The new razr devices come with motorola’s Hello UX software, which offers personalized experiences, advanced ecosystem connectivity, and comprehensive security settings.

Upcoming AI features will include prioritized summaries of communications, instant conversation recording, and memory-capturing capabilities, which should be fun to check out.

So, let’s talk about each model!

moto tag

Motorola has also introduced the moto tag, a Bluetooth LE tag with Ultra Wideband that helps you locate your possessions through Google’s Find My Device network.

The moto tag is sleek, secure, easy to use, and works with most Android smartphones. It uses the Google Find My Device network and Ultra Wideband (UWB) technology to offer precise tracking, especially when paired with an Android phone that supports UWB, like the motorola edge 50 ultra.

The moto tag allows you to locate tagged items such as keys, wallets, and luggage through the Find My Device app, which has a global reach. It also includes a feature that enables youto find a misplaced smartphone by pressing a button on the tag, making the phone ring.

The moto tag always considers your privacy. It integrates with the Google Find My Device network, which ensures your location data is end-to-end encrypted. Only the tag owner or those they share the tag with can view its location.

The moto tag is also compatible with unknown tracker alerts on  Android and iOS, giving you extra protection against unwanted tracking. You can also perform manual scans to check for any tags that may be following them.

The moto tag has a multifunctional button that can ring your smartphone and also act as a remote shutter for taking photos, which will come in handy for capturing pictures without holding the phone if you are using the new motorola razr in flex view mode.

Setup is straightforward with Google Fast Pair, which quickly connects the tag to your smartphone. The moto tag app allows you to customize settings, such as changing tag names, adjusting alert volumes, and checking battery life.

Designed to fit most third-party accessories, which I am taking to mean the plethora already out there for the Apple AirTag, the Moto Tag has an IP67 rating; it is resistant to dust, dirt, and water immersion of up to 3′ for 30 minutes. It runs on a CR2032 battery that lasts up to a year and is easily replaceable.

You can keep an eye out for the moto tag on the motorola site.
