Cons

I have played electric guitars for over thirty years, which means thirty years of noise for anyone who lives with me, whether they like it or not. I have tried multiple headphone methods in my amplifiers, but they are cumbersome. With the new Fender Mustang Micro Plus headphone amplifier, my guitar practices are now wireless, on headphones, and full of effects!

The Fender Mustang Micro is an all-in-one personal headphone amplifier with onboard DSP. It only measures 3.15″ long by 1.5″ wide by 1.21″thick and weighs 1.9 ounces. The 1/4″ input plug folds for storage, making it easier to read while connected to the guitar. The rechargeable lithium-ion battery gives four hours of continuous playtime and is charged via USB-C.

This tiny device plugs straight into your electric guitar and gives the player wireless freedom to practice as loud as they want over headphones.

The Fender Mustang Micro Plus includes 50 amp and effect models and 100 preset slots. Seventy of those slots are presets from the factory, and players can save their creations in the other 30 slots.

So far, I have found the presets to be more than enough for any style of music I play.

Buttons on the Fender Mustang Micro Plus

One side of the Fender Mustang Micro Plus has the power switch and save button. The power switch also allows for Bluetooth pairing. Pairing with a mobile device or computer allows streaming audio and videos to play along with jam tracks and instructional videos in real-time.

The other side houses the toggles for presets, EQ settings, and the onboard tuner. The Fender Tone App for iOS and Android via Bluetooth lets users create and modify presets, backup settings, and download or share presets with other users. If you cannot find the perfect tone for a certain song or style, the app has plenty of shared settings that will get you rocking.

Using the Fender Mustang Micro Plus

The Fender Mustang Micro Plus’s integrated OLED display is crisp and easy to read, and the volume knob on the front is in a handy position. I could easily see and toggle settings and presets while the Micro Plus was in use and the guitar strapped up.

The plug moves freely while playing the guitar, making playing cordless in a sitting or standing position easy. The sound quality is phenomenal, and there is no popping or issues when the device moves.

Since testing the Fender Mustang Micro Plus with my Fender Special Edition Custom Telecaster FMT HH, I have been jamming more than ever. Having this many features while being wireless and over headphones has been a game changer. I can get lost in my guitar and music and not bother anyone else in the house. Loud, quiet, clean, or dirty. Any style or mood I am in can be played with jam tracks.

The other night, my wife came and found me jamming to some of my favorite tunes with headphones on while in my concert. She said I disappeared for over an hour, and she did not know I was playing my guitar! Not only am I getting more practice time, but the family does not have to hear my guitar turned up to 11 when I do it.

The Fender Mustang Micro Plus headphone amplifier has been a real game-changer for me. If I could add a Butterscotch Blonde Telecaster to my collection, I would be an even more complete Fender fanboy!

This tiny device is perfect for anyone who plays an electric guitar, regardless of style or musical taste.

The Fender Mustang Micro Plus retails for $129.99; it is available directly from the manufacturer and other retailers, including Amazon.
