Peak Design Everyday Case for iPhone Review: Three Finishes, One Excellent Everyday Carry

Peak Design‘s phone cases have been part of our daily carry for several generations, and each new round brings small changes worth talking about. The Peak Design Everyday Case for iPhone comes in two configurations, SlimLink and SlimLink with a loop, and Peak Design sent three for the iPhone 18 Pro Max: the loop version in Ocean, the loop version in Black Clarino, and the standard SlimLink case in Black Leather. Same chassis, same mounting system, three very different surfaces to hold. We rotated through all three to work out which one deserves the spot on the phone.

The structure underneath is the same across all three Everyday Cases, so this comes down to what you want your phone to feel like in your hand and look like on a table.

The Black Leather version is the sleeper. It is real full-grain ECCO leather, and it is about as sleek and minimalist as a phone case gets. There is no branding shouting at you, no texture doing anything clever, just a dark slab of good leather wrapped around a phone. It is the one we kept reaching for when the phone was going somewhere that people look at phones.

The Black Clarino is the vegan leather option, and it’s genuinely convincing. Clarino has a soft, almost suede-adjacent hand to it that reads as a deliberate material rather than a substitute for something else. If you do not want animal leather, you are not settling here, and it costs less than the real thing.

Then there is Ocean, which is the one that surprised us. The Versashell fabric is a nylon canvas that is weatherproof and, per Peak Design, 100 percent recycled. The color is beautiful in a way that photos undersell, and the fabric shrugs off weather and pocket grit. Of the three, it is the one that most looks like a Peak Design product, which, depending on your taste, is either the point or the reason you go with leather.

The loop is what separates the two loop-equipped cases from the plain SlimLink version, and it is worth understanding before you pick.

If you are constantly moving with your phone in hand, it is a great answer to grip without bolting a PopSocket to the back of your phone and giving up flat surfaces forever. It stows away when you are not using it and deploys when you want it, which is the whole trick.

That said, the current design doesn’t stow quite as flat as the version we used on the iPhone 15 Pro Max. It is a small difference, but it is the kind of thing you notice when you set the phone down on a desk or slide it into a tight pocket. It is still a good implementation of a good idea, and we would still take it over the alternatives. We just preferred the older one.

The Black Leather case skips the loop entirely, and that is part of why it looks the way it does. If the minimalist profile is the reason you are buying, the plain SlimLink version is the one that delivers it.

This is an area where many case makers quietly cut corners, and Peak Design does not. All three cases have covered volume and power buttons that feel great to press. There is no mush, no dead travel, no hunting for where the button actually is under a slab of rubber. They click.

The camera control cover is handled well too. Apple’s camera control is fussy to cover, since it needs a press, a light press, and a swipe to work through whatever material is on top of it, and these cases let you use it without thinking about the case.

The camera bump cover extends beyond the lenses themselves, which is the right call. That lip takes the hit when the phone lands face up on concrete, and a case that only rings the camera array without standing proud of it does half the job.

The screen side is where we would like a little more. The lip around the display is there, but it is shallower than we would prefer for a face-down drop onto a hard surface. The good news is that the cases are designed to work with a screen protector, so you can cover the gap yourself, and that is what we would do.

Worth being clear about expectations here. These are slim cases in the Peak Design mold, aimed at everyday drops and everyday life. If you want a case that survives a fall off a roof rack, that is a different category of product and a different silhouette.

The SlimLink and MagSafe connection is as good as ever, which is the short version. Magnetic chargers snap on and feel genuinely secure rather than just attached, and the mechanical side of SlimLink is what makes Peak Design’s mounting ecosystem worth buying into in the first place. If you already own a Peak Design car mount, bike mount, tripod adapter, or wallet, you already know this system, and it works the way you expect.

If you do not own any of that, the case still functions as a strong MagSafe case on its own. The mounting hardware is an optional upside, not a prerequisite.

At this price, the obvious comparisons are Nomad’s Modern Leather case, Bellroy’s mag-compatible cases, and Apple’s own TechWoven and silicone options. Nomad makes a beautiful leather case and its Horween leather ages better than most, but it has nothing like SlimLink behind it. Bellroy matches Peak Design on looks and material quality and, again, has no mounting ecosystem. Apple’s cases are fine, cost about the same, and have the least interesting materials of the bunch.

Moment’s (M)Force cases are the closest philosophical competitor, since they are also built around a mounting system with a mechanical lock rather than magnets alone. Between the two, it comes down to which ecosystem you want to live in, and Peak Design’s is broader.

Buy the Ocean Loop case if you want the fabric, the color, and the weatherproofing, and you want a grip that does not turn into a permanent lump on the back of the phone. It is the most Peak Design of the three.

Buy the Black Clarino loop case if you want the loop and a leather look without animal leather. It is the best-feeling of the vegan options we have handled.

Buy the Black Leather SlimLink case if minimalist is the whole brief. Real ECCO full-grain, no loop, nothing sticking out, and the nicest-looking phone of the three when it is sitting on a table.

Skip all three if you need maximum drop protection or a deep screen lip out of the box, or if you have no interest in the mounting ecosystem and just want the cheapest decent MagSafe case you can find.

More broadly, this is the part worth saying plainly: Peak Design’s iPhone cases continue to offer some of the best features, build quality, and aesthetics in the sector. That has been true for several generations now, and the current Everyday Case does nothing to break the streak.
