The UMID mbook Pink Edition for the Impossible-to-buy-for Girly Gadget Girl

You can stop staring now.

Sure, the UMID mbook Pink Edition is only a little bit larger than a Nintendo DS, but this dainty morsel is running full Windows XP! I am completely intrigued by the Handheld PC form factor, and I can’t help but be interested. Starting at $449 (including a storage pouch and 4GB microSD), you get five hours of “actual (not theoretical)” use for surfing, editing, emailing, chatting …whatever. This would be the a perfect complement to the MiFi that I received as an early Christmas gift (thanks mom!), to boot!

If the pink is too girly for you, they also come in black. I kind of like the pink … stop snickering!

Sooo tempted … I am desperately trying not to click the eWallet button on my iPhone to retrieve my Amex number.

The UMID mbook fits a clutch but it’s actually a regular laptop. As the world’s smallest PC, it’s the cool conversation piece you can take anywhere. The mbook runs full Windows XP on an Intel® Atom™ processor. The five-hour battery life makes it great for all your favorites: Skype videoconferencing with your friends, Facebook, watching TV Hulu, downloading movies on iTunes, or even work/productivity–so you can skip the laptop on your next business trip.

Let’s take a closer look at a variety of ways the UMID mbook can add a touch of the style to life on-the-go.

World’s Smallest PC:: With the full-PC experience now measuring 6.3 x 3.7 x 0.7 inches (161 x 96.5 x 18.1mm) and weighing 0.69 lb (315g), you can put it in your pocket or purse, and take it with you anywhere. Ample power comes courtesy an Intel Atom CPU and the searingly crisp 4.8-inch (1024 x 600) touchscreen makes browsing the web comfortable. Remarkably for its size, the mbook features a usable keyboard. Perhaps not for writing your memoirs, but it’s extremely convenient for punching out e-mails or filling out forms on the web.

The FULL Web: Find a hotspot, whip out the clamshell device, and enjoy everything you have come to expect from your desktop or laptop. Unlimited, free, Skype video-conferencing is easy with the user-facing camera. Run the browser of choice, and enjoy streaming your favorite television shows. The list goes on; everybody enjoys the Internet in different ways, and now you can enjoy it anywhere, anytime.

Multimedia – UI The Pot: From movies to music, video to photos, you can scroll through your media library effortlessly with a quick swipe up and down, and select exactly what you want to watch/listen. Everything is thoughtfully arranged and displayed to make the portable experience on the mbook even better.

Battery life: Perhaps the most exemplary feat of engineering in this 0.69 pound device is a battery that delivers up to five hours of actual (not theoretical) use. Standby time runs into the days, and the mbook awakens from standby in seconds, aided by its solid-state HDD.

  1. Its too cute. I'd be tempted to buy it and then add Swarovski crystals..or at least at a Hello Kitty emblem.

  2. Yeah, it kind of begs for that. 😉
