I’ve got no word yet on how they sound, or whether it’s even practical, but Klipsch has come out with a way to wirelessly stream music to a dimmable LED bulb which also functions as a speaker. Their aptly named LightSpeaker screws into an existing light fixture, and when you attach a digital music player to the included transmitter, sound ensues.
You can “connect two different music sources to the setup and separate the different music to play in two different zones. For example, if you’re throwing a party, you can play certain playlist on your iPod in the kitchen and have a Pandora station on your laptop play in the living room.”
All right everyone; would you like to have music streaming from your light fixtures? Maybe? Read on…
Winner of a 2010 CES Innovations Award, the Klipsch LightSpeaker is the first product to combine efficient LED lighting and wireless ambient sound into a single unit that installs like a light bulb.
Here’s how it works. Installation is so simple even the least tech-savvy people can do it. Simply remove the existing light bulb and screw in the LightSpeaker just like a regular light bulb. Playing music on the LightSpeaker is just as easy. Select your music source (such as a laptop, iPod or iPhone), connect it to the included transmitter and the sound is wirelessly sent to the LightSpeaker.
One really cool thing about the LightSpeaker is that you can connect two different music sources to the setup and separate the different music to play in two different zones. For example, if you’re throwing a party, you can play certain playlist on your iPod in the kitchen and have a Pandora station on your laptop play in the living room. Best of all, the LightSpeaker’s LED light bulb is dimmable, so you’ll always be able to create the perfect ambience in any room through music and lighting. The LightSpeaker works virtually anywhere a standard light bulb is used, including can lighting, hanging light fixtures and even floor lamps!
I’ve got a booth appointment with Klipsch tonight; it will be interesting to see this gadget in person. 🙂
