It is summer and time to have some fun.  I have recently heard rumblings of another great iPhone game.  The game was mentioned in the same sentences as Plants vs. Zombies so my ears perked up and I paid attention.  I needed to check out the game if it is near as good and addictive as what I was hearing.  First I tried the Lite version and thought about using it as the Blue Plate Special, but I was having so much fun I had to go ahead and buy the full version.

I was trying to find the words to best describe the game to support the theme of these birds being angry, but could not do it better than the developers, so here is how they describe the game.

“Lemme tell ya, these ain’t no ordinary finches we’re talkin’ about. These here are the Angry Birds, the ones that’s gonna kick you in the ‘nads. And they’re the ones on your side. They must be from Galapadapados, or sumptin’.” – Col. Angus, Bird Expert.

The survival of the Angry Birds is at stake. Dish out revenge on the green pigs who stole the Birds’ eggs. Use the unique destructive powers of the Angry Birds to lay waste to the pigs’ fortified castles.

Angry Birds features hours of gameplay, challenging physics-based castle demolition, and lots of replay value. Each of the 120 levels requires logic, skill, and brute force to crush the enemy.

Protect wildlife or play Angry Birds!

The theme of these words set a great tone for what you get into while playing the game.  Sporting a HUGE 135 levels, Angry Birds is sure to provide hours of game play.  Each level is truly unique presenting challenges that require careful planning and accuracy.  Use a variety of birds to destroy the nasty green pigs and unlock achievements.

To set forth all of this destruction, the birds are shot from a huge sling shot.  The type of bird to be used is pre-chosen, so plan wisely before letting them fly.  Tap and hold the bird in the sling shot, pull it back, aim and fire.  The angle and power of the shot is extremely important to the success of the level.  Each bird shot leaves a trail which remains for the next bird and will assist in the angle of the next shot.  To increase the challenge, the sling shot is usually just far enough away from the castle that it is a blind shot.

You will battle big pigs, small pigs, pigs with helmets…each enemy will require a different attack. I am not sure how many types of birds are used for attack, since I have not finished the game but new birds keep showing up.  The best birds will do something special with a second tap of the screen.  They may split into three smaller birds or fly faster or even drop eggs.  Just remember each bird used has a special attack that must be used to beat each puzzle.  Some are better at defeating different materials so learn the birds!

Angry Birds is one of those games you just must try to understand.  I have had a genuine blast playing and will continue working through the levels.  If the review leaves you not sure, then download the Lite version here for free.  The developers have put together eleven challenging levels to give the user a great sample of the game.  Once you play a couple of levels go ahead and go here and download the game for $.99.  It will probably become one of the best $.99 games on your phone!  They also offer an HD iPad version for $4.99 which I have a sneaking suspicion will be found on my iPad very soon.

What I like: Super fun and addicting game play with a unique theme.

What could be improved: Absolutely nothing yet.
