Zoom’s H1 Handy Recorder is small. How small? Here’s a picture of it in hand…

In fact it is small enough to mount right on a camera.

Despite its size the H1 records big sound. As the company explains…

Like all Zoom recorders, the H1’s onboard microphones are configured in an X/Y pattern, for stunning stereo imaging. Because both mics are arranged on the same axis, they are equidistant from the sound source for perfect localization and no phase shifting. The result is great stereo recordings with natural depth and accurate imaging.

The Zoom H1 has an MSRP of $159.99 but is advertised on Amazon for just $99. It is available for pre-order now.

The full release follows.

Hauppauge, NY – July 19, 2010 – Zoom is excited to announce that pre-orders are now being taken at Zoom authorized dealers across the United States. The highly anticipated H1 Handy Recorder is Zoom’s smallest recorder yet, and features the same mic capsules as their H2 – the most popular handheld recorder in the world – along with a stylish, pocket-sized design.

The H1’s two onboard microphones are configured in an X/Y pattern, for stunning stereo imaging depth and clarity. Delivering crystal clear 24-bit/96 kHz stereo recordings, the H1 is perfect for music, songwriting, interviews, lectures, recitals, band practice and more.

Customers can visit authorized Zoom dealers or go online to pre-order H1s. All pre-ordered H1s will ship to customers on August 20. Customers can also purchase in stores on that date.
