When MobileMe turned into iCloud, those of us who had dumped hundreds of dollars into the service hoped that Apple would ‘throw us a bone’ for the years of loyalty. And they did – we got the 20GB storage level for free until June 2012.
Here is the section from the FAQ:
MobileMe members with 20GB of purchased storage receive a complimentary iCloud storage upgrade of 20GB, and accounts with additional purchased storage (40GB to 60GB) receive a complimentary upgrade of 50GB after moving to iCloud. These free upgrades are good through September 30th, 2012. After that date, you can continue the upgrade at the regular price or let it expire and use the free 5GB plan.
The rest of the FAQ remains the same – and MobileMe is STILL going away at the end of June:
What’s happening to MobileMe?
The core services provided by MobileMe have been completely rewritten and are now part of iCloud. MobileMe will no longer be available after June 30th, 2012. To continue to have mail, contacts, and calendars kept up to date automatically and free of charge, and to enjoy the new services that iCloud provides, MobileMe members must move their accounts to iCloud before June 30th, 2012.
It will be interesting to see how people deal with the transition – will they buy the 20GB of storage or move to 5GB? I know many folks who were irked with the 1000 photo limit on iCloud who have just used other resources such as DropBox for image storage. What about you? Were you a MobileMe user? How have you used iCloud … and what are your plans when the free storage ends?
