Gear Diary STM Cable Wrap 003

These days it isn’t that we just carry our phones, tablets and laptops but we also carry the small cables and accessories that help us get the most from our electronics. And while you can just throw all those cables and adapters into your gear bag, keeping the safe and organized can help save precious time and frustration. After all, Murphy’s Law says the adapter you need will be the one at the very bottom of your bag. That’s where the STM’s Cable Wrap comes in. The simple, nylon accessory makes it easy to organize your cables and small adapters and bring them along wherever your travels might take you. At under $25 it is an inexpensive accessory for your accessories. Mike took a look at the black version back in April (read it). I’m using one too. Let’s take a brief “Gear Diary in 90 Seconds” look.

As you can see, the STM Cable Wrap consists of four main sections held closed with a strap for easy access. The two outer portions of the Cable Wrap fold in onto themselves. From there a center fold brings the package down to one quarter its extended width.

Once fully extended the STM Cable wrap reveals a nice assortment of different storage areas. There are three small pockets that are perfect for individual cables. Three larger pockets had a touch of elastic along the top to hold the items you put inside in place. These are perfect for larger items such as an external battery or hard drive. Two medium-sized pockets and a larger zippered pocket round out the storage spaces offered by the Cable wrap.

STM notes that theCable Wrap is ideal for letting you “Organise and protect your cables, hard drives and digital accesssories”. It isn’t fancy but it accomplishes its mission and, at the same time, is light enough that it won’t add much bulk or weight to your gear bag. Made from a light-weight water resistant canvas lining and a water resistant poly shell, when extended the Cable Wrap is 10.2 x 5.9 x 1.3″ an weighs just 0.4 lb.
