Naztech 2400mAh Power Case for iPhone 5/5S Review

Naztech 2400mAh Power Case for iPhone 5/5S

The problem with high-tech gadgets is their huge power needs.  The best way to make sure you don’t run out of juice before the end of your day is to use an external battery.  The Naztech mAh Power Case packs a ton of backup power into an easy-to-use case for $89.99.

The power case is composed of two parts; the battery pack itself, which has a lightning connector and the plastic frame that clips into the battery pack and holds your phone securely in the case.  Naztech’s Power Case comes with three interchangeable frames in three colors; blue, purple, and clear.

The frames have cutouts for the power, mute, and volume buttons, which tend to obstruct the use of these buttons, however you eventually get used to it.  The Power Case also comes with a headphone adapter as well as a microUSB to USB cable, which is what charges the battery pack.

A neat addition to the back of the battery pack is a kickstand which allows the iPhone to sit propped up in landscape mode, unfortunately, it does not hold the phone up in portrait mode.

Due to the thickness of the bottom of the case, the included headphone adapter is required if you want to use headphones while the case is on.  This is a slight inconvenience, but not as much of an inconvenience as it is for your phone to run out of juice before you’re done with it for the day.  This is also the case with many other battery packs on the market.  Unfortunately, the plastic frames that hold the phone in place feel thin, flimsy, and not completely secure.  This could be in my head, however, as my phone did not fall out of the case at all.  The back of the battery pack features four LED indicator lights that will show you how much battery life is left in the pack.  There is also a button on the back of the battery that when held will turn on the battery pack on and off.

As far as the battery pack itself goes, it performs very well.  I have yet to run out of battery on my phone, because the battery pack always comes in handy.  The Naztech Power Case charges my phone quickly and easily.  I was able to go from 30% battery life to 100% within a couple of hours and the battery pack still had some juice left in it.  The battery pack definitely adds some weight to your phone however.  The battery pack and frame together weigh 2.95 oz while the iPhone itself weighs 4 oz, so it adds almost 75% more weight.  But, as I mentioned before, a little extra weight in your pocket or bag is a small price to pay to ensure the continuous operation of your phone.  One thing I’ve noticed with the Power Case is that it’s a little bit slippery as the back and sides of the case are flat plastic with no texture.  This, along with the added weight of the battery pack can possibly lead to droppages, but it hasn’t happened to me, yet.

Comparatively to other iPhone battery cases on the market, the Naztech Power Case actually stacks up pretty well.  It’s actually smaller and lighter than the Mophie Juice Pack Plus.  It also has 300mAh more battery capacity than the Mophie, not to mention that it also retails for $30 less.

I would recommend the Naztech 2400mAh Power Case to anyone looking for a well-priced all-in-one battery case.  Although the build quality isn’t as good as other cases on the market, you’ve got to appreciate the high battery capacity that the Naztech Power Case packs.

The Naztech 2400mAh Power Case can be purchased directly from the manufacturer.

MSRP:  $89.99

What I Like:  Large battery capacity; Built-in kickstand; Quick charge; Smaller and lighter than other leading battery packs.

What Needs Improvement:  Overall build quality could use improvement; Buttons built-in to frame would add to the design.
