Recently I reviewed Temptation: Episode I from Vogat and G5 Entertainment, a haunting tale of magic and mystery brought to life through the casual hidden object genre. Now they are back with Silent Valley: Mystery Mansion, another dark and mysterious tale full of dread and misfortune. The story is once again wonderfully integrated and enjoyable to explore – another great game!

Major features:
With Silent Valley: Mystery Mansion, Vogat takes the standard hidden object genre elements and twists them around enough so that while you know exactly what is going on and what to expect, it doesn’t feel like a rote exercise in genre standards. It does all of the elements very well, and keeps things intriguing and more challenging than any genre game I can remember playing recently.
The story starts off happy and hopeful with a beautiful bride and groom – so you know bad stuff is imminent! And sure enough before long you are launched into a mystery looking for your new husband and trying to figure out what is going on!
You will encounter standard hidden object scenes, but they are in the minority of the challenges you face. You will need to seek out specific items, remember where they are needed and STILL face challenges in using them! Some of the puzzles are … well, puzzling. You face different types of challenges than in most games – in fact, one has you figuring out the production and delivery cycle for cheese!
The game brings story, tension, atmosphere and cerebral involvement along with plenty of fun. Silent Valley has you uncovering a complex and twisted story that is sinister and insidious … but also enjoying one of the better genre games I have played. A great experience every fan of the hidden object genre should grab!
Ease of use/Overall performance:
If you are familiar with hidden object games you will be immediately comfortable here. Load times were quick, and never single crash. The graphics look fantastic on the iPad Mini, even without a Retina screen. And the voice acting is excellent – both in terms of the amount and the quality.
Would use again/recommend?: Absolutely! I found the story and setting intriguing, and the plot and characters kept me going. The challenge of the game was surprisingly high, leading this game to take me longer than I expected!
Suggested changes/wish list for updates: Nothing
