I recently reviewed the ZAGG Power Amp 12 Portable Charger and Flashlight. It is big, powerful, and charges your phone up to four times. Its a great option if you need serious power. And since it is available in five bright colors there is one for every taste and style. (Not that an external battery is a fashion statement but still…) For your $30 you get an external battery that will double your phone’s run time and has the same smart chip technology as its bigger sibling, so devices charge quickly but safely, and it also sports a flashlight.
This small battery is made of metal and a synthetic material that is soft to the touch. Since it fits nicely in the hand the soft material lets it serve as an effective flashlight.
In fact, I don’t think it is incorrect to think about this device serving as a flashlight and an external battery in equal proportions. (That’s different than the Power Amp 13 which is more a battery WITH a flashlight than a battery AND a flashlight.)
The battery has a microUSB port for charging using the included USB to microUSB cable. It also has a full-size USB port so you can charge any mobile device for which you have a cable. It offers 2.4A of power so you get rapid and efficient charging!

We’ve reviewed numerous external batteries and the style ZAGG brings to this current line of external batteries. The metal and soft material used in construction, combined with the internal tech means I can charge with confidence. Since this is so much a flashlight as it is a battery I do wish the battery/flashlight had a lanyard anchor so you could thread something through and hang it from a door handle or from a backpack.
