Audioengine makes some of my favorite speakers; I’ve reviewed a number of them and use them daily in both my home office and bedroom. Now Audioengine has announced the A5+ Wireless speakers. With pricing starting at $399, the A5+ won’t take up a ton of space but will fill a room with quality sound. That, however, is just the beginning.

I’ve reviewed the Audioengine BS Bluetooth speaker and still use it in the bedroom. (Read the review.) I reviewed the Audioengine HD3 Wireless Music system and use it at the desk in my home study. (Read the review.) And I reviewed the powerful Audioengine HD6 Powered Bookshelf Speakers and use them in my den. (Read the review.) All of them offer amazing sound and are just about as simple to use as you could ever want. Now they are offering the Audioengine A5+ Premium Powered Speakers, and I’m impressed!

Each speaker measures 10.75” by 7” by 9”. The right speaker weighs just 9.6 pounds while the left speaker, which houses the electronics, comes in at just over 15.5 pounds. A Dual Class AB monolithic amplifier works in tandem with 5? Kevlar woofers and 3/4? silk dome tweeters to deliver 150W peak power total. Having used a variety of Audioengine products I can pretty much guarantee these speakers will sound amazing.

One of the standout features of Audioengine products is their ability to work with a variety of audio sources. And while they use the word “versatile” to describe the speakers’ agility, I would simply use the word “amazing.” As they explain:

With custom Kevlar woofers, silk dome tweeters, and hand-built cabinets, the Audioengine 5+ includes a remote control, dual audio inputs and enhanced thermal management. You can charge your phone and tablet via the USB power port and add a subwoofer to the variable output. Connect Audioengine 5+ to your computer’s headphone jack or pair with a USB DAC to achieve an even higher level of sound quality. The Audioengine 5+ works with any computer and there’s no software to install or settings to change.

Audioengine also understands that people want great sound with minimal setup hassle. The A5+ deliver!

Built-in power amplifiers save space and eliminate the need to connect Audioengine 5+ to a stereo receiver or external power amp. Simply plug the left speaker into an AC outlet and connect the included speaker wire from the left to right speaker. All internal components of the A5+ are tuned together, providing a more efficient system requiring less power than passive speakers and amplifiers. With superior stereo separation and incredible imaging, A5+ has a clear sonic advantage over boomboxes or all-in-one systems.
