In addition to the flagship Xperia 1, Sony just announced the mid-range Xperia 10 and Xperia 10 Plus. Each has a 21:9 Wide Full HD+ display with a borderless design. That translates to an expanded viewing area enjoying videos. It also means you can run two apps simultaneously and not feel overly cramped when doing so.
The Xperia 10 has a 6.0” display while the Xperia 10 Plus has a larger 6.5” display. Both phones feature dual cameras with Bokeh effect, Sony’s High-Resolution Audio with DSEE HX and LDAC technologies so, when enjoying music, you’ll hear the audio the way the artist intended it.
As the press release notes, additional features include:
21:9 Movie recording in 4K allows you to shoot videos with Xperia 10 and Xperia 10 Plus in the same aspect ratio used by filmmakers. Plus, the multi-aspect ratio lets you choose the ideal image size – for example, choose 21:9 to fill the screen or 1:1 for the perfect Instagram post.
Dual cameras on both Xperia 10 (13MP+5MP) and Xperia 10 Plus (12MP+8MP) enable you to capture high-quality images with artistic Bokeh effect. Both the main and front cameras feature SteadyShot™ to capture blur-free videos. Exclusive to Xperia 10 Plus, 2X optical zoom lets you get closer to the action.
The Xperia 10 and 10 Plus aren’t just about shooting and enjoying photos and video. Sony packed some serious audio chops into these phones and, while I miss the days of the built-in noise cancellation of the Xperia 2 and Xperia 3, if you are looking to enjoy your music on the go, these phones won’t let you down. As Sony explains,
Advanced audio technology with Sony’s High-Resolution Audio and LDAC, so you can hear music in its purest and truest form even if you’re listening wirelessly. Also includes Sony’s Digital Sound Enhancement Engine (DSEE HX) which automatically upscales compressed sound files to near high-resolution sound quality
The Xperia 10 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 Mobile Platform and a 2,870mAh battery while the Xperia 10 Plus has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 Mobile Platform and a 3000mAh battery.
I love the fact that Sony has kept the iconic design of the Xperia line of smartphones while updating it, so it holds its own as a mid-range phone for 2019. The Xperia 10 has an MSRP of $349.99 while the Xperia 10 Plus will be $429.99. Both the Xperia 10 and 10 Plus will have Android 9.0 Pie when they arrive in the US on March 18, 2019.
