With winter “almost” behind us and Spring right around the corner, I was looking for a light jacket that I could wear on those cooler days and nights, and I think I may have found it with Outdoor Vitals LoftTek Down Jacket. I’ve got my hand on one of the jackets, and on the less frigid days of the last two months, I’ve found myself in love with it.

Made to be as lightweight as possible, the LoftTek Jacket by Outdoor Vitals is a GREAT layer for outdoor enthusiasts, or even just someone who wants a light yet warm jacket. The company states that the jacket has the highest warmth to weight ratio possible, beating out the competition; after wearing it, I can agree that they knocked it out of the park.

The jacket itself is certified 800+ fill power RDS Goose Down, which is also resistant to moisture. So if you plan on walking the trials or hiking, the elements won’t get to this jacket, as it’s lightweight and functional, and even packs into its own pocket for the moments that you decide you don’t want to wear it.

As far as wind resistance, here in Washington DC, the wind is absolutely brutal, and the LoftTek held its own with the ability to keep me from blowing away during a snowstorm early in February, on top of keeping myself warm. I’m a huge fan of wearing gloves, but if you do not, however, there are thumb holes and elastic cuffs on each arm. On top of that, there’s a two-way adjustable hood bundled with a high neck collar that I use to shield my face from the elements you might enjoy as well.

Something to note however is that the style of the jacket is actually athletic cut, so I was personally advised to get a size larger, settling for an extra-large over my traditional large size, and it fits in all of the right places.

So if you are looking for a jacket that’s great for a windy day, or something to throw on top of a T-shirt for hiking, this might be the down jacket for you. What’s more, the price is only $179.97, which is modest considering the competition charges as much as $239 for a similar style jacket.
