Comcast Xfinity Launches Self Protection Cameras for DIY Security

Home security is no longer only the realm of expensive monthly subscriptions but something you can install and monitor yourself if you wish. Comcast Xfinity has your back with a new program called Self Protection that lets you monitor your front door/back door/dog in the kitchen, all with continuous recording for only $10/month.

You’ll need an Xfinity camera with Self Protection, and those are either $120 upfront or $5/month for 2 years. This makes the whole program fairly budget-friendly since you can spread the cost out at only $15/month for everything needed. If you find that you want to expand to a more robust security system, Xfinity can integrate the cameras into their Xfinity Home security system down the line if you choose, though that would be obviously a higher cost.

This is a great concept that I could see working as an easy stopgap for someone who just wants to keep an eye on a vulnerable part of their home or to see what their kids get up to when they think no one’s watching. If you’re a Comcast Xfinity customer, head to their Self Protection page to learn more!
