OPPO may not be widely known in the United States yet, but today’s announcement of “their most beautiful phone to date,” the futuristic OPPO Find X3 Pro, may change all of that. With a huge emphasis on the Find X3 Pro’s full-path 10-bit Colour Management System and True Billion Colour Display and the smartphone’s two Billion Colour flagship cameras, this sleek 5G flagship was made to impress.
Billed as the world’s first end-to-end one billion color phone, and as such, having a screen that can display one billion colors, OPPO says that with their true billion color display, “the results are true-to-life, evocative, rich visual experiences, from capture to encoding, storage, decoding, and display.”
You may have caught some of the leaked OPPO Find X3 Pro teasers that have been circulating the web for the last week or so. In them, we got a glance at the sleek OPPO Find X3 Pro as well as a look at some of its features and capabilities. Perhaps the most intriguing part of its appearance is the molded glass camera bump.
With no harsh cuts or blunt edges, the OPPO Find X3 is made from a single piece of molded glass. The result is a sleek, slim, and lightweight smartphone that has been made to sit naturally in your hand or slide effortlessly into your pocket.
So let’s talk about the phone’s appearance first, and then we’ll get into its technical specifications.
The OPPO Find X3 Pro will be available in two colors, Blue and Gloss Black. The Blue version will have an anti-glare, matte finish that has been frosted to 85% opacity with a fingerprint-repelling silky texture; it will have a dual-tone, satin finish with a high-gloss camera surround.
The Gloss Black Find X3 Pro has a rich porcelain glaze in true mirror black that will feel like ceramic.
I may be the outlier here, but if the back is all glass and we’re just talking about finishes and opacity, I would have loved to see the phone also ship with a transparent glass back option. How cool would that be?
On to the OPPO Find X3 Pro’s features and specifications…
The Find X3 Pro will have a 6.7″ LPTO AMOLED (3216 x 144o), QHD+, Corning Gorilla Glass 5 display, and an adaptive 5 ~ 120Hz refresh rate to optimize battery life based on what you are doing on-screen. With a 525PPI pixel density and 1300nits peak brightness, the screen will be sharp and bright. It will also have a 5,000,000:1 contrast ratio with a color accuracy rating of 0.4 JNCD and A+ DisplayMate certification, which OPPO says means the tones it displays will be virtually lifelike.
Even so, OPPO understands that we don’t all see colors the same way, so it includes a built-in enhanced version of the Munsell 100 Hue Test — which is a respected way of assessing color vision. Using visual data, the phone will help you find your best balance between color expression and color resolution to supply you with one of 765 potential screen calibrations, color corrected for your eyes.
The OPPO Find X3 Pro measures 6.44″ long by 2.91″ wide by 0.32″ thick, and it weighs 6.8 ounces. You’ll be able to unlock it either by facial recognition or with the in-display fingerprint scanner.
Inside, it runs OPPO ColorOS 11.2 based on Android 11, a top-of-the-line Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 5G mobile platform, and an ADRENO 660 GPU. It will have 12GB RAM and 256GB storage, and an ultra-thin, ultra-efficient vapor chamber cooling system will keep it running cool.
The dual-SIM 5G Find X3 Pro will have WiFi 6, and it will support the following bands:
- 2G: GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHz
- 3G: UMTS(WCDMA) bands 1/2/4/5/6/8/19
- 4G: TD-LTE bands 34/38/39/40/41(194Mhz: 2496 MHz~2690 MHz)/42

The FindX3 Pro will have four rear-facing cameras with two primary cameras. The 26mm wide-angle camera is a 50-megapixel Sony IMX66 sensor (f/1.8) with OIS for 12.5-megapixel photos. The ultra-wide-angle camera is also a 26mm 50-megapixel Sony IMX66 lens (f/2.2) with a native 110º field of view and a 4cm macro focus distance, so you don’t have to settle for a smaller sensor based on the photo you want to take.
OPPO says that “whatever your subject, day or night, Find X3 Pro will capture every detail.” The Find X3 Pro introduces RAW+ for HDR capture in RAW format, which will be handy for those who like to really tune their photos. These cameras will also be capable of shooting 4K video at 60 fps or 30 fps, 1080P video at 60 fps or 30 fps, and 720P video at 60 fps or 30 fps; they can also capture slow-motion 1080P video at 240fps or 720P video at 480 fps.
The OPPO Find X3 also has a 3-megapixel microlens (f/3.0) that provides up to 60x magnification — so it will be like having a microscope on your phone! This lens can take extreme macro shots with all details preserved, and it offers FHD video recording. I don’t know how many people care about macro photos, but I am here for it!
Here’s an example of what you can do with the Find X3 Pro’s microlens. I can’t wait to try it out.
The final rear-facing camera is a 13-megapixel telephoto lens (f/2.4) with 5X hybrid optical zoom and up to 20X digital zoom.
And on the front, the selfie camera has a 32-megapixel sensor (f/2.4); it can capture 1080P video at 720P at 30 fps.
The OPPO Find X3 also Dolby Atmos stereo sound with ambient sound detection to optimize your listening experience based on your surroundings with a dedicated Movie Mode to expand the sound field when you are watching them.
The battery is 4,500mAh, and you’ll be able to enjoy fast charging with a TÜV Rheinland Certified Safe 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 Flash Charge, which OPPO says takes you from 0-40% in 10 minutes, or a 30W AirVOOC wireless Flash Charge, which takes the battery from 0-100% charge in 80 minutes. And yes, a 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 Flash charger is included in the box.
Evoking Vertu and their symphonic ringtones, OPPO has enlisted the award-winning composer, Hans Zimmer, to create notifications and ringtones for the phone, which will roll out soon in an over-the-air update.
And here’s one less thing to worry about — the OPPO Find X3 Pro will have IP68 water and dust resistance; it will be able to handle being submerged in freshwater up to about 5-feet deep for half an hour.
