Cons
When it comes to backpacks, the Peak Design Travel Backpack 30L stands tall as a shining example of form properly meeting function. I’ve had the privilege of testing a few backpacks in my day, and I can confidently say that this backpack has earned its place at the top of the pack for travelers.
Peak Design is renowned for its attention to detail, and the Travel Backpack 30L is no exception. The first thing that strikes you is its sleek, modern design. Available in Black, Sage, and Midnight, it manages to blend a minimalist aesthetic with an incredible level of functionality.
The clean lines and high-quality materials give it a professional yet adventurous look, suitable for business trips and outdoor excursions.
The Peak Design Travel Backpack 30L’s build quality is exceptional, with durable, weatherproof materials that can withstand the rigors of travel. The zippers are robust and glide smoothly, and the reinforced stitching ensures longevity. The backpack is made out of recycled 400D nylon canvas that’s weatherproof and has a waterproof 900D bottom liner for more durability.
Comfort is paramount when carrying your life’s essentials on your back. The Travel Backpack 30L excels in this department. The padded shoulder straps are adjustable and provide excellent support. Ventilated back padding keeps you cool during long treks or hot days, and the sternum strap and waist belt add extra stability.
Even when fully loaded, the Peak Design Travel Backpack 30L’s weight distribution is so well-engineered that it feels remarkably comfortable on your shoulders and back. The backpack also has convenient side and top handles for easy grabbing and stowing in overhead compartments.
The main compartment is a large open area, allowing for a lot of storage space for clothes, equipment, etc. When laid flat on the ground, the backpack can be fully unzipped, allowing for unencumbered access to the entire area, which is great for packing, unpacking, or just living out of your bag for the week.
The Peak Design Travel Backpack 30L’s main compartment also features expansion zippers for an additional 6L of storage room, so you can carry more when necessary or use them to compress your packed clothing.
On the top front of the bag is a smaller zipped enclosure that provides a place to store your keys, glasses, passport, or other small items you may want quick access to on your travels.
Additionally, Peak Design added a laptop sleeve at the back of the large compartment, keeping your laptop safe and secure while traveling.
Peak Design’s attention to detail shines through in the thoughtful, travel-oriented features. The stowable shoulder and waist straps are a blessing when you need to check your bag or stow it in tight spaces.
The Peak Design Travel Backpack 30L’s luggage pass-through slot is handy for attaching it sideways to rolling luggage; the zippers are lockable, and there’s even a luggage tag sleeve where you can tuck your information, so it’s ready for travel.
Peak Design was kind enough to also send their $59.95 Tech Pouch in a matching Sage Green. It’s an effective and organized way to store charging cables, memory cards, or everyday travel essentials and keep them safe and together. The interior is lined in a high-visibility grey nylon/polyester, and a thin high-density foam is built into the outer shell to provide structure and protection for your contents.
When I say that there are a ton of storage pockets in the Tech Pouch, I’m not kidding. Their “origami-style” pockets are really efficient, and the pouch even has a cable pass-through for convenient device charging.
The Tech Pouch is made out of 400D nylon impregnated with DWR to make it weatherproof, just like the Travel Backpack, so you know it’s built to last. Honestly, it’s the most overdesigned dopp kit, and I’m here for it; it’s a great way to keep my tech organized on the road!
