XMCOSY+ Double-Head Low Voltage Landscape Light (4-Pack) Review: Modern Design with App Control

XMCOSY+ offers a range of indoor and outdoor lighting solutions, including string lights, solar pathway lights, landscaping lights, and wall lights. This review focuses on their Low-Voltage Landscape Lights, specifically the XMCOSY+ Double-Head Low-Voltage Landscape Light, which comes in a 4-pack and sells for $159.99. These LED lights are understated and modern, with a stark t-shaped design in black. They are also available in a brown finish.

The lights are made of aluminum and IP65 waterproof grade, making them suitable for use in all outdoor environments.

Their individually tilting heads allow for 340 degrees of rotation, making them equally suitable for lighting paths, acting as spotlights, or providing ambient lighting.

Each light provides 400 lumens of warm white at 2700K and is fully adjustable through the XMCOSY app, which provides a full range of 16 million RGB colors.

The lights are also dimmable and can be voice-controlled through Alexa and Google Assistant. They run on a 12V DC output low-voltage system, and each lamp consists of 8W LED beads, which the manufacturer claims can last up to 50,000 hours.

Using the app, you can adjust the brightness and color of the lights and create schedules, plans, power-on modes, etc., for your low-voltage pathway lights. You can also choose your favorite scene among 32 preset scenes or set a custom scene to meet your different occasion needs.

The lights can even sync with your music for fun effects at parties.

A word about wireless networks: 5Ghz vs 2.4Ghz Wi-Fi

Both the XMcosy app and landscape lights only connect to 2.4GHz Wi-Fi. You may run into issues connecting the devices if you have a 5Ghz wireless network in your house.

The culprit is SON, which stands for Self-Organizing Network, and it’s how routers like those provided by FiOS work. If you go into your router settings, you can turn off SON and name the 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks separately. Then, when you go to connect the app, you select the newly named 2.4 GHz network.

Installation

Installation could hardly be easier; you’ll just pick your desired location and pound the spike into the ground. Then, you’ll install the light onto the spike and connect it with the included wiring. Finally, you’ll connect the wires from the lights to the extension power cable and plug them into a standard wall socket.

The lights themselves feel generally solid and connect securely to the base spikes. XMCOSY+ seems to use the same spikes across their product line, and it has been my experience that it is necessary to take care when installing and repositioning the lights so as not to exert excessive pressure laterally on the spikes themselves.

Recently, I went to adjust a light that was not perfectly vertical, and instead of pulling the spike out and realigning it, I bent it slightly, and the plastic piece to which the bottom of the light attaches cracked.

I had a similar experience exerting too much force on the aluminum “foot” that serves to steady the spike. The foot cracked and broke off. In neither case was the light left unusable, but additional steps now need to be taken to ensure that they stay vertical and firmly planted.

The XMCOSY+ Smart Pathway Light 4-pack comes complete with a 13′ extension cable and four 8.2′ light cables allowing for the total spacing of the four lights at a distance of 48′.

The 36W controller is designed with a unique 5-pin connector and is not compatible with other hard-wired and low-voltage systems. If needed,  13.1′ extension cables and a bigger 100W controller are available on Amazon.
