Design and Features
The fabric that used for the Rywell Arc-Chill dog pad is very interesting pet tech. It’s a thermochromic fabric that changes color as it warms up and changes from blue to white with touch. Out of the package, it has a blue pattern, as you can see below. (Banana for sizing)
One side of the dog pad has that smooth, almost slick texture and blue pattern to it, and the other side of the dog pad has a soft, more grippy fabric.
When you pack it away, the mat rolls up into a neat bundle with a couple of buttons to help fasten it.
See It In Action
This was the trickiest part of this review. For some reason, my dog didn’t care much for the fabric’s texture. She did lie down on the mat a few times while it was out, but normally ignored it and just lay down on the ground.
Success! Briefly…
Reverted to lying on the deck pretty quickly afterward.
Actively avoiding the mat. Again, I think this is specific to the dog and doesn’t reflect much about the Rywell Arc-Chill mat itself.
Since my dog was finicky, I broke out the thermal camera to see how it did! You can see here that the thermochromic material is pretty faded, but check out the thermal view.
It did a pretty effective job of absorbing and wicking away heat.
Final Thoughts
Overall, the design and fabric used on the Rywell Arc-Chill 3.0 Cooling Dog Mat seems very well done. I did notice that the blue thermochromic material faded and sun-bleached severely after a few days outside. It didn’t seem to affect the fabric’s cooling factor, but it’s worth noting. The fabric is definitely cooler to the touch and, for the right dog, could be very useful to have at hand.
