SCOTTEVEST Carry-On Coat Review and Giveaway

SCOTTEVEST recently rolled out another neat travel product. In this case, it is a coat specifically designed for travel. The SeV CARRY-ON COAT has 33 pockets (33!!!!!) and can actually replace a carry-on. Here’s how Scott describes the jacket on the site.

Sometimes when going on a trip, people choose to “pack light,” and this usually means carrying a small bag or two. The Carry-On Coat redefines packing light by allowing you to replace the contents of a typical carry-on bag with a precisely engineered structure of pockets and compartments built into the coat.

No more extra bag fees, carry-on fees, or trying to stuff a carry-on bag under the seat in front of you; this coat holds as much as a bag, but is not subject to the airline rules and regulations. Consider it your free pass to hands-free travel… this is the SeV the airlines don’t want you to know about.

SCOTTEVEST is known around the world for our travel clothing with many built-in pockets, but the Carry-On Coat raises the bar. We’ve included 33 pockets designed with our NoBulgeTM pocket structure and Weight Management System built in, so even if you are carrying three days’ worth of wardrobe items, toiletries and other essentials, you won’t look or feel like you are.

We designed the Carry-On Coat for precisely this purpose: to allow travelers to go away for a weekend with everything they need (including clothing!) inside the coat. Fully self-contained travel.

Going through security at the airport could not be easier. No bags to check, no bag fees and you can put the Carry-On Coat right through the x-ray machine (without emptying anything from your pockets except liquids and your laptop).

We have even included an easy-access 3-1-1 pocket for carrying the regulation 1 quart bag of 3oz. liquids, so no fumbling on your way to the gate.

The Carry-On Coat is made of a Teflon®-treated waterproof and breathable material, and styled like a traditional Trench Coat. There is carrying capacity for up to four shirts and t-shirts, two pairs of slacks, socks, ties, underwear, toiletries and more.

These items are in addition to what our typical travel features, which allow you to securely carry travel documents, cell phones and MP3 players (with our patented Personal Area Network – PAN), eyeglasses and digital cameras.

iPads and similarly-sized items can also fit in most sizes, so even if you’re traveling light there’s no need to leave anything behind. Available in Khaki. Made of Teflon®-treated Waterproof/Breathable 100% Polyester. Machine Washable.

There is a ton I COULD write about the CARRY-ON COAT, but I think this brief video kinda says it all… (For more details check out the product page over on the SCOTTEVEST SITE…)

Read on, however, for our summary of the jacket AND a chance to win this specific CARRY-ON COAT…

So that is a silly look at the CARRY-ON COAT. No, you would not want to fill it up quite so much (or use it to carry baking supplies), but you could. And that’s the point. The CARRY-ON COAT gives you the option to carry all the things you need right on you — as much or as little as that might be. Get to airport security, put the coat on the x-ray machine conveyor belt and you are good to go.

The CARRY-ON COAT is available in sizes small through XXXL and is available directly from the SCOTTEVEST website.

MSRP: $225

What I Like: Tons of pockets; thoughtfully designed and well-made; can be especially useful for someone who travels a great deal

What Needs Improvement: One of the more “travel-specific” items in the SeV lineup; Not as stylish as other SeV jackets

UPDATED: Thanks to SCOTTEVEST the giveaway is no longer limited to the size large review sample. The winner will get a new CARRY-ON COAT, their choice of size shipped directly from SeV headquarters. All other details below remain the same…

We are going to give away the review unit. It is a size large, and it will be given to one reader at 5PM tomorrow. Why 5PM tomorrow? Right now, SeV is running a Cyber Monday sale that has the CARRY-ON COAT discounted to $180. The sale goes on until Monday midnight. That means you will know if you won this one six hours before the sale ends, and if you don’t win, you can still buy one while it is still discounted.

2. Select any SCOTTEVEST item OTHER than the CARRY-ON COAT and tell us how many pockets you would have if you wore the CARRY-ON COAT AND this second item.

IMPORTANT: Once an item has been selected and shared in the comments below it MAY NOT be used again. In other words, select an item that is not in the comments yet for your entry.

UPDATE 2: The interest in this contest has been SOOO large that we have run through the SeV catalogue. Therefore, beginning Monday morning new entries must…

Select any TWO SCOTTEVEST items OTHER than the CARRY-ON COAT and tell us how many pockets you would have if you wore the CARRY-ON COAT AND these additional items.

BONUS ENTRY…For a second chance to win…

This screen capture from the CARRY-ON COAT product page points to a video SeV CEO Scott Jordan made of the coat. Watch the video and list three items you see Scott remove from the coat for a second chance to win…

  1. I’d pick the Micro Fleece Pullover, which would give me 40 pockets. Fleece is great, and having a pullover fleece with all these pockets would be great for day trips, like to the Museum of Science and Industry!

  2. I would get the Expedition Jacket because I love lots of pockets and it would be a great wind-proof replacement for my old SeV fleece. The Expedition Jacket plus the Carry-On Jacket would total to 70 pockets.

  3. I like the pack windbreaker. If I wore this with the Carry-on coat, I’ll have a mind-boggling total of 50(!) pockets.

  4. Second entry
Three of the many things he took out of the carry-on coat:
    1) Digital camera
    2) sunglasses
    3) ipad

  5. The travel sport shorts because I hope I’d be going some where warm. Giving me a total of 44 pockets, whoa!

  6. I’d love to have the Go-2 Jacket for women because it looks totally innocuous and even stylish while being incredibly useful. With the Carry-On Coat, we’d have 53 pockets!

(I was going to say that my husband would look great in the charcoal Expedition Jacket but someone already commented about it!)

  7. I’d appreciate the Pack Windbreaker. I hate the thought of wearing this plus the Carry-on Coat, but if I did, I would have a total of 50 pockets, 17 of which would be a little less than accessible. 🙂

  8. 2nd entry: Deodorant, iPad, Toiletries (and a ridiculous number of other things – wow).

  9. Doh – completely missed that someone had already entered the Pack Windbreaker – that’s still my favorite of their Cyber Monday sales, but my second choice would be the Flex Cargo Pants. That would give me a total of 44 pockets – with all of them being more easily accessible. Any chance you can delete the above comment and replace with this one? I completely missed the rules saying not to use something already mentioned. 😛

  10. Ultimate Hoodie Microfleece – simply stylish, yet fully functional. With the Carry-On Coat, that’s a total of 44 pockets!

  11. Bonus entry – an iPhone 4, an iPad, and a Kindle.

  12. I love the travel vest for women. Its 22 pockets plus the carry on coat’s 33 would give me 55 pockets of goodness, though my hubby would be wearing most of them! I chose the travel vest because it had a feminine cut and seems that it could be worn with jeans or with slacks and look equally great. I am very excited about Scott’s products!

  13. Bonus entry: Scott removed a Kindle, travel boxers and a dress shirt!

  14. RT @GearDiarySite: Tech Clothing Review and Giveaway: SCOTTEVEST Carry-On Coat

  15. I would wear the coat with some flex cargo pants, giving me a total of 44 pockets. I have wanted to try these pants for some time, and the Cyber Monday sale may put me over the top. These pants look like they would definitely work in my office.

  16. Bonus Entry:
    1. Dress Shirt
    2. Toiletries
    3. iPod

  17. Bonus entry: passport, tie, SeV Travel Pants.

  18. I’m going to say the TEC Hat with SeV logo, which would give me a total of 35 pockets with the Carry-On Coat, because there isn’t much else on sale that hasn’t been used here. There only seem to be 12 items on sale, including the Carry-On Coat, which would make it impossible for more than 11 people to enter.

  19. Brandon Nelson | November 28, 2010 at 11:26 pm |

My definite first choice is the TEC Hat. That would give me 35 total pockets and a great solution to bed head each morning.

  20. Three of the items that Scott removes from the coat are a digital camera, sunglasses, and an iPad.

    My bonus try:

    1. Digital Camera.
    2. Toiletries.
    3. Kindle.

  23. Tech Clothing Review and Giveaway: SCOTTEVEST Carry-On Coat

  24. I’d go for the Pack Windbreaker, which would give me a crazy total of 50 pockets 😮

I’d like it so that I can have a light Scottevest to wear around when it’s too warm for my Soft Shell or Evolution 🙂

  25. Second entry:

    He pulls out

    1) a Kindle
    2) sunglasses
    3) an iPhone

  26. Main Entry:

    1) I would be most likely to purchase the SeV Travel and Sports Shorts. I just returned from a 5-day trip with no luggage. I wore the SeV Hidden Cargo Pants for all 5 days. It would be nice to have a lightweight second pair of pants or shorts so I could wash one pair while I wear the other. The SeV Travel and Sports Shorts sound ideal for this. They would also serve as pajamas at night and could substitute for a bathing suit in a pinch.

    2) Hidden Cargo Pants + Carry-On Coat = 10 + 33 = 43 pockets.

  27. Bonus Entry:

    1) SeV Cotton T-Shirt
    2) SeV Travel Boxers
    3) SeV Travel Pants

  28. Kinda rough to not be able to pick something already taken… I’m gonna go with the pack windbreaker though because it doubles up as a pillow. You have an extra piece of clothing in the jacket that can keep you warm at your destination, and while you’re getting there, you have something to keep you comfortable on the plane. That would be 50 pockets.

  29. Bonus entry:
    Sev Travel Boxers

  30. RT @GearDiarySite: Tech Clothing Review and Giveaway: SCOTTEVEST Carry-On Coat
