It is actually looking like the tablet bonanza promised last year will finally arrive. Francis and I just found ourselves in tablet-Ville. Prototypes and actual shipping models were everywhere and almost all were running some version of Android.

It’s hard to say. Some of the analysts still think that the iPad will still dominate the market. They site the lack of apps and the lack of a solid eco-system as reasons. I would think another concern would be cost. Android phones have arguably done well due to their lower costs (pity the Android app market isn’t doing as well). These phones usually cost less due to subsidies. The tablets aren’t as likely to be subsidized (but they will be in some cases) so without the other factors like the apps and eco-system, how are they likely to compete? It’s unclear.
History has already shown us that even superior hardware doesn’t translate into increased adoption – look at Beta vs. VHS. Look at the MP3 player market where iPods still dominate even after superior hardware appeared.
And lets not forget that a new iPad is likely to be introduced very soon and it is probably that it will eliminate many of the hardware advantages (like cameras) that currently announced Android tabs offer.
In any case – 2011 will be a very interesting year!
