Yet Another Reason I Hate Sony

While I mentioned that Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars came out two weeks ago for just about every platform, I’m still not playing it yet.

Why not? Because due to my play habits and the game style of the LEGO games, I love playing on the PSP. Also, my favorite PSP is the PSP Go, which then means that I have to wait for the PSN release – sometimes same day, sometimes later, sometimes never. In this case it was known there would be a delayed launch, which meant that I would just have to keep an eye out. So as always I checked in on Joystiq’s RSS feed on Tuesday and sure enough, there was Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars! But that is only the beginning!

If you look at the Joystiq ‘PSN Tuesday’ post detailing what new releases are hitting the Playstation Store this week, this is what you get for the PSP:

PSP

Downloadable Games (also available from PS3 Storefront)
Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars – Digital

PSP minis (also available from PS3 Storefront)
Fish Tank – Minis ($3.99)

Game Videos (free)
Pulse 4/5 Edition

PSP Themes (also available from PS3 Storefront)
White Cliffs Of Dover Theme ($1.49)
Tokyo Life Theme ($1.49)

Yet if you go to the Playstation Blog linked in the Joystiq post (which is the ‘official’ source) you get a slightly different story:

PlayStation Store for PSP

PSP minis (also available from PS3 Storefront)
Fish Tank – Minis ($3.99)
ESRB Rated
File size: 7.1 MB

Game Videos (free)
Pulse 4/5 Edition
File size: 49 MB

PSP Themes (also available from PS3 Storefront)
White Cliffs Of Dover Theme ($1.49)
File size: 519 KB

Tokyo Life Theme ($1.49)
File size: 638 KB

Given that Joystiq copies & pastes the PSN Store Update direct from the Playstation Blog, the difference is striking. Certainly changes happen, and it would be unfair for me to blame Sony for that. Unless, well, a change happened after they published the ‘Store Update’ … and they didn’t even note that there WAS a change!

And once again this is the problem I have with Sony – they have absolutely failed to get publishers to support their flagship handheld by offering PSN releases day & date with the UMD launch, have failed to provide the value proposition for a digital device, and are now simply changing releases without notice and failing to realize that since many sites track their blog it would be easy enough for us to catch them being dishonest … again!

So this is just yet another reason I detest Sony despite loving some of their products. I have spent six years being treated like a second class citizen, and yet here I am again with money in hand waiting to buy another game from them, only to be thwarted once again without an explanation or even admission!
