GTA Chinatown Wars Goes Universal, Out on Android!

One of my first posts at Gear Diary was the review of the Nintendo DS game Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, a game I considered ‘essential and ‘my favorite game of the franchise’, and which remains the best-reviewed DS game. In 2010 I reviewed the game on iPhone and later iPad, and now it is out for Android!

Actually, there are TWO pieces of news here: the Android release and a huge iOS update!

iOS Version of GTA Chinatown Wars Updated:

Here are the basics of the update:
– Universal App! Play on all your supported iOS devices*
– Full Retina Display resolution support
– Support for MFi controllers
– Updated, highly customizable touchscreen controls

I never found the iPhone version of GTA: CW to live up to either the DS or PSP versions, but the iPad gave enough screen space that the virtual controls no longer got in the way. In fact, I actually summed things up this way in my review:
– The DS version has the most balanced overall experience … but worst graphics
– The PSP version has the best movement controls.
– The iPhone version is the worst version but still a solid value
– The iPad version is the best value, has best graphics, solid controls and is my overall favorite

The fact that the game now supports Retina screens, and more importantly MFi controllers, makes it an incredible experience – I played some on my iPhone 6 as well as iPad (Air 2) … and it is an excellent experience. Also by making it Universal it means only buying a single game!

Head to the iTunes App Store and grab for just $2.99! Or if you already own it, time to download again and give it another shot!

iOS Version of GTA Chinatown Wars Released on Android:

I love that developers keep bringing paid games to Android, and I hope that they do well enough to drive away that ‘Android gamers don’t pay’ stigma. The Android version of GTA: Chinatown Wars costs $2.99 (on sale from $4.99), and supports HD resolution, widescreen, Android TV, Bluetooth and USB gamepads, and more.

Here are some GTA: Chinatown Wars Features:
– Epic storyline with tons of side-missions, addictive mini-games, and hidden collectibles
– Widescreen resolution support
– Support for Android TV devices
– Updated, highly customizable touchscreen controls
– Enhanced graphics, lighting and explosion effects
– Compatible with select Android Bluetooth and USB controllers
– Integrated with Immersion tactile effects
– Requires Android version 4.0 or greater

The game looks and plays great, exactly as it does on iOS – I have it on both my Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 and Kindle Fire HDX (7″) and it is very playable even with on-screen controls. If you have an Android device, this is definitely a great game to check out – even better if you have a compatible game controller.

Head to Google Play (or the Amazon Appstore) and grab GTA: Chinatown Wars for $2.99 on sale!
